I've had a crazy day, I can't sleep b/c of all the anxiety I'm experiencing, and I thought, "Oh, I need some prayers from my 4real friends!"
This morning, I pulled a muscle in my back while I was carrying my 30+ pound toddler, Lucia. I rested most of the day, and alternated putting cold and hot packs on my back and was feeling much better this evening. Then, as I was trying to get everyone ready for bed, I realized that my toddler was missing. I frantically ran around the house and the backyard looking for her, then, feeling almost hysterical, I ran out the front door and saw her crossing the street to the east of our house. The street she was crossing is a residential street, but it's busy, and there were 2 cars stopped waiting for her to cross. I started running towards her and tripped and fell flat on my face (and belly). I caught up with her after she crossed the street--she was fine, but Mommy was not! When I got back into the house and the adrenaline wore off, I noticed that I had skinned my knee and foot and aggravated the pulled muscle in my back. Thankfully, I've felt the baby kick, so I know he (or she) is okay. My dh had been out walking the dog, and left one of the gates to our backyard open and unlocked when he left. We think that Lucia must have gone out into the backyard and then through the gate to get out to the street. ANYWAY, this is the SECOND time she has managed to get out of a house and into the street. I am really worried about this kid! I'm having dh put chain locks on all exterior doors tomorrow, but the thought of what could have happened to her REALLY scares me. Please pray to Lucia's guardian angel, that he will watch over her and keep her safe. I'm really anxious about how I'm going to pay enough attention to her after this new baby is born--my other 2 daughters were not "runners."
Dawn

I am right there with you Dawnie!
I was just looking for door alarms this weekend. They didn't have any alarms at the local store so I will have to hunt online. I did get locks for the girls' doors to keep Sam out but Cris has the drill at work so I have to wait to install them.
Praying that all our toddlers stay safe!
Blessings,
Krisann

Oh Dawn, you have my toddler!
Also my prayers, I know exactly how your feeling. It is so overwhelming. Your only mission in life becomes keeping that child safe.
Hopefully, it's shaving off some purgatory time.

Dawn,
I've had one of those kids, too. Never knew where I was going to find him. You and your little one are in my prayers.

Dawn,
I am praying for you and your toddler and the wee one to come! (I might call the ob, and just run the fall by them, just for piece of mind.)
My 2yo is a houdini at escaping any kind of restraint, lock, you name it! We had to barricade the doorwall to keep him in, put the handle covers on all the doorknobs, and lock all windows when we are running around, as he has pushed the screens out and climbed out the window! (Fortunately, this is the ground floor!)
I have said his guardian angel is working overtime!
I will pray for no more escapes for Lucia!
God Bless,
Stacy in cool MI (Fall is in the air!)

Dawnie,
Praying for you.
I remember last fall chasing my little escape artist up our long driveway, as she laughed her little head off and my pregnant body could not keep up. If I hadn't been in so much pain I probably would have laughed too, she was quite a picture! Fortunately, we live on a cul-de-sac, so I didn't have as much to worry about.

I feel for you..my fourth and eighth dc have challenged me in this area..well, my eighth dc is still two and challenging me everyday. Some days I feel like I don't have a clue how to parent this child. ..usually because I'm just too exhausted to think about it.
He has been doing better about staying in the carseat while I'm driving My dh and I joke that child safety gadget makers need to use our dc for their testing.
I pray you have some peaceful days while you have a quick recovery from your fall and back injury. Get some arnica! Also praying... you feel you are meeting her needs when the new baby arrives. I am struggling with that, too. (with the 2, 4, and 7 yr olds) My newborn and teens are zapping my energy. ..."This too shall pass"...
God Bless

Thank you for your prayers everyone. My back is much better today--I was actually able to sleep last night. My dad used to have problems w/ pulling muscles in his back when I was a kid--I always wondered what the big deal was...now I know, it REALLY hurts. Wish I'd known that I should take arnica when it happened on Wednesday!
Bridget, thank you for reminding me that I have nothing more important to do than keeping Lucia safe. I think I just need to accept that I'm going to have to be extra vigilant with her, do my best and pray a lot to her guardian angel. I thinking that maybe this experience shaves off some time in purgatory. That was just what I needed to hear!
It is really humbling to have a toddler like this. It makes me realize how small I am when it comes to the awesome task of raising children. At the same time, it is encouraging to know that I'm not the only one with a run-away-prone toddler.
Thanks so much everyone.
Dawn
