I's thinking about buying a rice cooker.
I hope to cook brown basamati and other long grain brown rice as well as regular rice.
Any features or brands you can recommend?
My on the stove method is not bad, I but I do end up with non-fluffy rice at the bottom of the pot, fine for soup but wondered if there was a better way.
A timer might be nice too.

We have a rice cooker, used it tonight in fact!

And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! It says it's a NATIONAL. We've had it for a long time.

I think rice cookers are pretty standard. For me, the simpler, the better.

I heard you can steam veggies in it too, but I haven't tried that yet.

We've had one from Japan for 20 years and love it. Last year we decided to try out the models in the store since they were so low cost. We had problems with the two models that we tried because they the steam bubbled out the vent. I don't recall the makes of those cookers, but when you make your purchase be sure to look at the steam vent. On the inside cover there should be come kind of deflection system around the vent. If there is just a single hole in the lid for the steam to escape with nothing beneath it (shield, deflection insert, etc), you'll end up with rice that has a dry top layer and a mess of gooey rice water on your counter.

Finally got to a store where I could see the cooker I was purchasing.
Rice, separate little grains all the way to the bottom.
Why did I wait so long?
Thanks for all your recommendations.
