Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was hoping that someone with knowledge of German language programs could comment on the following programs I've found or might have recommendations of their own:

Fokus Deutsch - high school and college resources
http://www.mhhe.com/socscience/german/fokus_bg1/
http://www.learner.org/resources/series104.html -
This has videos

2. Assimil German - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/270051050X/

3. Gene Moutoux's Essential German -
http://www.geocities.com/gene_moutoux/Germain.htm
This appears to be supplemented with fairy tales and letters in German.

Rosetta Stone and Power Glide were not hits with this daughter. We tried Power Glide for Spanish, and it drove her crazy - she wanted to know why she was saying what she was saying. Her sister used Rosetta Stone for Japanese, and she was not impressed with it. I don't think she wants an immersion method - like Pimesleur???

Thanks for any help you have.

How old is your daughter? I've got some great things for kids learning German up to about aged 10 or so -- games, nursery songs, etc that realy help learn the language ... we did them last Spring and my littles still remember words and songs.....

She'll be 15 next month - this is for high school.

However, I would still be interested in what you used with your younger ones. I have a 9 yr. old and twins that are 5 (almost 6). I have an Usborne German book and a software program (name escapes me right now) that I picked up years ago. Songs and games sound fun - my older dd would probably enjoy them.

Thanks,
Janet

Mary -

Please let us know your resources for the younger set. After our trip last year, my 6 yr old is committed to learning German but I am at a loss - Ican speak some French but none of the children want to learn it.

For older students, I like the old textbook, "Anfang und Fortschritt". You can get a cheap old edition on-line. I think it's pretty thorough with its explanations.
