I note that Elizabeth is hosting the carnival for the next Elegant Simplicity and the focus is on our learning areas.
Now as the carnvial is August the 28th there is no way I will be ready. Our room is a mess it is literally crowded with toys, books and paper. However I've decided that I may as well tackle it anyway as I do have to do it some time but I just keep putting of the 'dreaded day'. I don't know where to start.
I was wondering if anyone has any great suggestions, I'm also wondering about storage ideas. Perhaps someone has some inpsiring posts on their blogs? I remember someone has a brilliant one a while back, I think it was Helen maybe?  I'd love a step by step from someone skilled at tackling these problems  Hey I'm even desperate enought to send photos to such a lifesaver to give a visual.

Me, too, Erin! I had actually cleaned and organized it a few weeks ago, but then I got into making "a few things" for dd and it is a mess again with my projects piled all over. But school is starting soon, so I guess I need to get it together! I was SO hoping to have something to add to this carnival since my entire house is really a dump EXCEPT the school area! It is the only carnival I will be able to contribute to at all!LOL!

I've been working on mine as well. I just need to learn that I do not need the number of books I have, and I've been selling a lot on cathswap, which has helped us to pay for our curriculum this year!
My sister's been helping me get my room together. I have SO MUCH to do in this house, and want it to be *lovely*, but figured the schoolroom is important, because if we're not organized, and can't *use it proficiently*, I'm wasting precious space, wasting precious time, and impeding our best eduation here. 
So, we're getting there. I have a few boxes to go through today to get the books in order by subject that we are keeping.
When I'm done, I get to put our table up (a fold up plastic table), with our chairs around it, and when my mom's done hemming it, I get to put our new fabric tablecloth on it too!  I bought a piece of *map fabric* from Wal Mart two weeks ago to use as our tablecloth. I figured if I had a nice tableloth on there, I wouldn't allow it to be used as yet another surface to be messed up. 
I have some vinyl too, so I can use that for our art projects, etc.
In our schoolroom, we have four big bookshelves. The kids each get a shelf (three kids) for their books for the year, their supply box (pen, pencil, ruler, calculator, glue, etc.). I get a shelf for my binders and teacher's guides that I don't keep on my desk.
The other shelves hold the books we use frequently, by subject. On top of the shelves, we keep our learning games, and some of the boxes that hold our science supplies, and manipulatives by subject, our instruments, etc.
In the closet, we have our educational CDs, DVDs, videos, etc. and then I have my home stationery supplies, cards, thank you notes, and some of my scrapbooking supplies and stamping supplies as well.
We also have an easel that my dh made, where a chalkboard, and dry erase board can be interchanged to use for school. We also have a chart holder where I can put my charts and pocket charts on it (on the rings), because we have limited wall space in our little home.
It's a lot, but it's very comfortable in there. My only criticism is I wish it wasn't so dark. We don't have an overhead light. But we're going to run our swag lamp in there to bring more light.
What exact problems with storage are you having, Erin? Is there specific problems you could point out? I think every school/learning room is so different, and every hsing family has it's unique challenges with space, etc.

Our learning room is also our family room, so its in a constant state of changing throughout the day. I can never find it perfectly clean.
I'm going to isolate certain areas for my pictures so as to not shock you with chaos  . I try hard to keep things in check, but it does bubble out of control at least once a day!
For those of you that feel chaotic, try to isolate little areas or items that you like.
