Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Have you read this? What do you think of it? It was recommended to my oldest by one of the cousins. I'm hesitant, as I've never heard of it. Thanks!

Warning: Spoilers...

I read it as a child. I gave it to my ds to read when he was 12. Its a murder mystery where everyone is in the house and "someone" from the house "did it" and the detective has to figure out who...all the people point the finger at each other, etc. I think a will and an inheritance are part of the story. In the end, it turns out its a set up, if I remember correctly, and the old man isn't dead after all. Sonlight has it in their core 6, I believe.

Ds says its the BEST mystery he ever read (he's also read lots of Hardy Boys and Sherlock Holmes). Its the only mystery to ever win a Newbery, according to SL.

I should say its been so long since I've read it that I can't remember if there are inappropriate things in it, but I decided to take SL's word for it.

hope this helps.

I haven't read it since I was in my early twenties - but I loved the book. Each and every time I read it.

There isn't anything gruesome in it - to my recollection. It's a true whodunnit - which will keep you guessing to the end.
