The Brisbane International Film Festival is on at present and there is a 2 and a half hour film on the life of the monks in a Carthusian monastery in the French Alps, Into Great Silence

The Carthusian's are the strictest order of monks in the Church, they live their life almost completely in silence except for the Gregorian Chant. This film is filmed in silence (except for the chant) and it took the film maker 15years to gain permission to do this!

I am sure it would be shown in the U.S. at sometime soon, might be worth inquiring about.

Something happened and I didn't get to see it here in Brisbane as planned, so I hope that it will come out on dvd. Here is the trailer!
