Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I found a wonderful site that lists pick your own farms in your area. I have it linked on my blog.

Also, those of you who had my blog linked on yours (musings of a Catholic mom of 7--LLMom), I have changed it. I have emailed some of you but thought this would be faster. I am slowly adding everyone's blog onto mine so if you don't have yours listed on the blog thread or its changed, please add it. I want to include everyones.

Also check out my thoughts on the gestapo mom. I am finding this to be a widespread problem throughtout the homeschool community.

Regarding the "gestapo mom", your comments gave me something to think about because, sadly, I can sometimes tend in that direction on some subjects. However, may I object to the term "gestapo"?

At one time, I was asked to sponsor a confirmation candidate who had not done any prep up to the month before his comfirmation. I set up a schedule, and we did a year's prep in 4 weeks. He was very grateful. For that work though, I was labeled at the chapel as the "sponsor Nazi". How loving!

Maybe we could call us/them "rigid" or "opinionated"? Nazi Germany was such an evil thing, it seems wrong to me to make that association. Just my 2 cents.

Rachel,

Thanks for your thoughts. I didn't mean to upset anyone. I think teaching someone the tenants of the faith is VERY important. People MUST be taught before they receive sacraments such as confirmation. What I, and many others have found is that there are extremists that are telling people they are going to h*ll or are evil if they do things such as EVER use NFP or EVER attend a New Mass or whatever. THe church does NOT teach these things. That is what I have found. I actually have been called rigid and opinionated because I have chosen to wear dresses, homeschool, let God plan my family, etc. All of those things (and those mentioned in my article) are very good things to do but to tell others they are evil if they choose otherwise is wrong, unless they don't attend Mass at all or use artificial contraception or whatever. (go against church teaching) If you clicked on the link to Willa's article about being a mentor vs. the gestapo mom, you will see the difference. She wrote about that beautifully. Also, Fr. Paul Scalia gave a talk at the IMH homeschool conference in June about what he calls the Church Belligerent. It talks about this exact thing and how those who become this way are not fighting for the faith but destroying it.

Again, sorry if the term offended you or others. I actually did not come up with the original term but never thought that it would be hurtful.

I think for some people it may not be so important that it is personally hurtful but that the term that was associated with such evil actions not be watered down to include people like manipulative or bossy moms.

I agree it is a harsh label, although I see from the blog entries that you did not coin the phrase Lisa.

Rachel May I tried to PM you but your box was full to the brim!    It was great to see your name back on the board--I hope the new baby is well!

Lisa, I was aware that you hadn't originated the term, but since it came up I thought I would add my two cents here. I hope you don't mind. I appreciate your apology although I realized that you probably were not trying to be hurtful. The ladies here are above that in my experience.

I object to it from both points of view. We don't want to further alienate these people, and also we don't want to slip into the mistake of lessening our horror of the evil of Nazi Germany.

Now to clear out that inbox!

I get called the "dragon mum" by a priest friend in our parish - he thinks I am way strict - but at least he calls me that in jest.

Did it make you more popular? I had 5 kids who wanted me for their sponsor the next year! I'd have to disagree with "dragon mum" though. You sound way fun to me!
