Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know...I know...in general, we moms don't plunk our five and under littles in front of the television. Yet there are times, like when mom is sick, when a DVD break can help. What are your favorite picks?

Love,

Leap frog, Maisy, Veggie tale, Winnie the Pooh, and Little Bear are the favorites with the littles here.

My little guy 4 likes the Thomas the Tank Engine videos and also The Beatrix Potter videos, they tend to be very gentle and only about 30 minutes in length.

Dear Angie,

Here are some of mine and these one are religious ones at this stage:

Any of the CCC Saints and Heros

The Miracle Maker This one is brilliant and the children really love it.

Might be too old for them but my children love this: The Miracle of Marcelino

Angie

My four year old's tastes change. She has just finished a musical theme, she really enjoyed re-watching Mary Poppins, the Sound of Music, and Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang.

I second that plus Darby O'Gill and the Little People, Swiss Family Robinson which are along the same line (non musical though)

I second the Leap Frog and Little Bear recommendations. My children have also just discovered the "Little Einstein" series. The characters explore a famous work of art and a classical piece of music while travelling the world and familiarizing themselves with geographical landmarks. My children beg to watch it every day!! And I don't mind so much as my four and six year olds are discussing Bach, Mozart etc. without any prompting from me!!

As far as videos with a faith element, we have found the "Francesco's Friendly World" videos to be of superior quality. I would say they are a Disney animation quality without being Disney. They're Catholic! There are three videos in the series, "The Last Stone","The Gifts of Christmas" and "The Broken Cross". If you had to just buy one, I would purchase, "The Gifts of Christmas". These videos were VERY inexpensive (about $8 per video CND)and I ordered them through our local Catholic bookstore. The ISBN# is 1-57132-076-8.
For little ones ages 2 and up, I would recommend the Holy Baby dvd's. They are like a Catholic Baby Einstein. They show different religious images while reciting prayers in different languages - including Latin! That alone was good enough for me. My kids were able to learn basic prayers in Latin before the age of 5. Not bad!!!

Hope this helps!

Over here, the girls love anything about dancing. Some of the dvd 'lessons' also get them on the floor to follow the 'teacher.' (I occasionally join in to give them a few laughs over Mama showing some arabesques )

Some that we use are How to be a Ballerina/How to be a Ballet Dancer,

Classical Baby: the Dance Show, and

Sesame Street: Zoe's Dance Moves.

We even have Dora the Explorer -- Dance to the Rescue! Most are just 30-minutes long, but that gives me a good chunk of alone time

My dc are almost 3 and almost 5.

Favorites of my 3yo dd:

The Wiggles
Leap Frog
Signing Time

And for the past week: Disney's movie version of Annie. My mom took all of the girls and me to see Annie on stage a few weeks ago and my 3yo has been going around the house singing "It's a Hard Knock Life" for days now. It's priceless!

I just looked these up. Ignatius Press has the 3 VHS videos (I don't see any DVDs) for a total of $19.95here. Looks good!

Thanks, Jen, for the link - I'm still trying to figure out how to DO that!

Also, when I ordered "Francesco's Friendly World" I was told that they are NOT planning on transferring them to DVD, I guess they will remain on video alone.

God bless!

My almost 3 yo has enjoyed

Thomas the Tank Engine (I love these, too -- Like Meredith said, they are gentle. If a kids' video grates on my nerves, I don't want it on.)

Baby Einstein videos (he returns to these even as he gets older)

Little Einsteins (I love that he sings classical tunes)

Scholastic Book Videos (Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom is our favorite)

Signing Time videos

A few CCC, like St. Nicholas

And Beatrix Potter videos

Thanks so much! We like the Donut man, too! I can't wait to see his shows now that he's Catholic!!! How fun!

Also, thanks for the links to the Holy Baby DVD. They have come out with their second volume, "Jesus Loves Me, He is the Bread of Life"
The prayers included are: Sign of the Cross; Lord have Mercy;Gloria; Nicene Creed; Our Father; Sign of Peace; Lamb of God; Hosanna;Divine Praises and St. Alphonsus' Divine Praises, all of this hosted by Baby Bosco and his dog Grigio (terribly cute). Lots of great songs and Eucharistic imagery. If my kids are going to watch anything, its SO nice that they can watch a well made
DVD showcasing Catholic art, statuary and toys.
