Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used this book? Do you like it? Is it appropriate for a Catholic family? And if so, what age is it appropriate for?

I liked it and used it with my dd. It sounds a bit like it is out of the 1800s and very definitely has a Protestant approach - but nothing that would be offensive to Catholics or anything - just a different way of making the same point. At least this is what I remember. It definitely was supportive of our approach.

I liked it, too, and so started reading it with my 10 year old. We only read a chapter or 1/2 chapter at a time and very infrequently, but it has been a great discussion starter.

My daughter really enjoyed reading it when she was about 11 or 12.   It was quite old-fashioned but to her that was a strong positive.

Has anyone seen or used the
The Girlhood Home Companion by Jill Novak?

I know they used to have paper copies mailed out but are getting ready to release electronic styled copies. It sounds so sweet...
In Great-Grandmother's day, before "teenagers" and "adolescence," there was a special time in a girl's life that followed Babyhood and Childhood. It was the cherished time
of Girlhood…

I love the idea of Girlhood as opposed to Tweens or Teens, but they also admit to being inspired mainly by Elsie Dinsmore. Is this one of those Protestant things that'll have me flinging it up against the wall    (well, I guess not, since I'd never do that to my dear laptop ) or will I love it so much it'll become dog-eared by both Marianna and I? Does it go along with Beautiful Girlhood? (it sounds like it should...)
