Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi - can anyone recommend good illustrated poetry books with classic poems. We have the Jack Prelutsky books, A Child's Garden of Verses and a some other ones with no illustrations.

Thanks

We just checked out an excellent one from the library: Classic Poetry: An Illustrated Collection edited by Michael Rosen. Such a beautiful book!

Hi Marilyn.....

Here are a few of our favorites...

Sing a Song of Popcorn.
Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young. selected by J.Prelutsky.
When the Dark Comes Dancing – illustrated. nighttime. some of the illustrations are a bit "different", but it has great selections.
Random House Book of Poetry – illustrated. Not my kid's favorite as far as the illustrations, but a great selection of poems.
Talking Like the Rain.
Sleep Baby Sleep, Michael Hague. Night time poems
When the Dark Comes Dancing – illustrated. nighttime.

Have fun looking at these! Let us know what else you find! I LOVE illustrated poetry anthologies!

I just checked this one out from the library too! Thanks for the recommendation, Michelle. It's really good! Not "rhymes" for young children, but all the best poetry for a bit older crowd of children. Like you said, It's a beautiful book!

Thanks Michelle and Suzanne

Great suggestions! I also got the Oxford Treasury of Classic Poems out of the Library - we are enjoying this.
