Hi,
I was wondering, is there any chance that any of you (or someone that you know) had a pregnancy after having a DVT during/immediately after - a previous pregnancy?

Me. :-)
I have a genetic blood clotting disorder and as a result many of my pregnancies have ended in miscarriage.I have had DVTs.
Because of my medical history, I have to be on Clexane during pregnancy and delivery and immediate post partum. This is to prevent blood clotting.
And I need high risk medical care when pregnant.

Wow, Leonie. I had a DVT after our youngest was born, but to my knowledge I don't have a genetic blood clotting disorder. I was told that another DVT was a risk with a future pregnancy, and so we decided to use NFP to avoid. I was 38 then; I'm 45 and pre-menopausal now so it's unlikely I'll conceive...though not something we're trying to do.
Is Clexane similar to Coumadin? I was told Coumadin can affect the baby if taken during pregnancy...can give him/her some kind of syndrome. I don't remember what it's called.
I'm sorry for the babies you lost in miscarriage.

Hi Patty,
Clexane is similar to Coumadrine ( I was on Warfarin after my last DVT and that is NOT safe in pregnancy) . But Clexane *is safe to use in pregnancy - they just monitor the dose and you get to inject yourself twice a day.

I had a DVT in my right leg (that was initially missed) after the birth of our last dd - she's 4 now. I have some lasting damage to the veins in that leg, and it hurts often.
The dr.'s also told me that any future pregnancy was a real risky thing, and I would have to stay away from all hormones - so no BCP (of course we would never have used them anyhow) and I wouldn't be able to do any kind of hormone replacement for menopause, etc.
I had blood / genetic testing done, and I had no markers that would have pre-disposed me. So they really don't know why (except that I was very, very sick and so quite inactive, plus with having such big babies, they can press on veins and slow done circulation...)
I had to take Lovenox injections for weeks. I am guessing that it is similar Clexane.
Now, the dr.'s had pretty much scared dh and I badly, and convinced us I should never, ever get pregnant again. I just don't know if this is accurate ( most of the dr's we were dealing with had the "you already have three anyway" mentality.)
Is there a place to get more information?

Laura, I have some lasting damage to some veins in my leg becaue of DVT and this makes me more prone to superficial clotting - I had superfical clots and was on rest last January.
The doictors have never advised against pregnancy - mind you, this doesn't mean they are positive when I have been pregnant. 
There is an email list for those people who have had DVTs and are pregnant or who have factor v Leiden ( the blood clotting disorder).

I have Factor V Leiden and didn't have a clot during either of my pregnancies, both of which required some level of bedrest. The doctors were amazed. I didn't find out about my condition until after my daughter was born.

My relative had DVT and abdominal clot (I forget which vessel but it was a major one and could have really been serious since the docs here kept telling her she had sciatica and to walk) with her 9th baby. She had had some sort of problems with clotting (deemed superficial at the time) with just about every pregnancy from a very early age. She was put on Lovenox for the remainder of the pregnancy with baby 9. There were some tricks about when to go off before labor so you do not run risk of excessive bleeding and then coumedin at some point afterwards. She has not had to be on drugs between pregnancies after a point but was put on Lovenox again with her 10th from early in the pregnancy. Baby was fine and labor and delivery no different than others.
Her docs have not been discouraging at all about pregnancy though they don't go out of their way to advise it. Because of her abdominal clot and the major rerouting of vessels that occured, abdominal surgery (including c-section) would be a bit riskier for her especially if the doctor was unaware of all her extra vascularization.
