Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We will be going to a daytime wedding in July. My two older daughter's have outgrown most of their really nice dresses. Does anyone know where I can buy modestly priced, pretty dresses (both girls wear a size 10)?

Christine,

I found very pretty dresses at JC Penny for my 10 and 9 year old girls for Easter in that size range. They were long and flowy and modest and didn't look too young or too old for their age. It might be worth a look - they'd probably be marked way down by now. I think I paid about $20 for each dress, which was actually the sale price then, too.

Other places I have found cute but modest dresses for them are Ross and Marshalls, but it can be hit or miss there.

Good luck!

We like The Children's Place.

I bought 3 lovely dresses for Easter and they are well-made and unique!

Happy Shopping,

Must be the season, but I just looked online to see what they're offering.

not fond of much....

Usually, the selection is lovely.

Glad you posted this, Maria! I was just checking out their dresses and starting to wonder!

Bonnie Jean makes beautiful, but pricey, dresses. You can usually find them on Ebay. I have purchased a couple at Kohls, but only on sale.

Honestly, I checked again and Blah! But this past Easter, there were some vivid, feminine ones. If I can figure it out , I'll post pics of the dresses I got. Two of them had very sweet lines and the other was a little on the funky side. Hmmmm...surprised, huh?

A friend happened to sit behind my family last Sunday at Mass. On Monday she asked me where I find the stylish but modest clothes for my pre-teenagers. I had to admit that many of them have been passed on to us by friends, and that at this point my oldest buys a lot of her own clothes, so the stylishness is due to her natural talent in that area.

But of those I've purchased, J.C. Penney is the best source. Sometimes I've found good ones at Target. I agree with Molly about the Bonnie Jean label. We have quite a few of those here and those I purchased came from Kohls (and possibly Hechts?) on a good sale.

Thank you! We tend to be given dresses, too. In more recent years, the dress giving has tapered off and I have been buying dresses from Land's End. The Land's End dresses are a little casual. I will try to make it to JCPenney today. Maybe I will be lucky and the Bonnie Jean dresses will be on sale.

My favorite site for girls clothes is Hannah Anderson. Beautiful, feminine, and well made. And right now they are having an awesome sale!

Thank you for all of the recommendations. I have to go into Seattle today and I don't feel up to shopping.    I went to Storybook Heirlooms and saw they currently have a sale. I ordered this dress for my two older girls Blue Stretch Lace Dress and this one for my youngest (they didn't have her size in the other dress). Now, I am just hoping that the dresses fit and that they arrive before July 8. If they do, all the girls (mom included) will be dressed in blue.

I saw the same cute ones at Easter that you are talking about, Maria, just in case anyone thinks you are crazy!

Well, I canceled my Storybook Heirlooms order. I ended up stopping at JCPenney on my way home and I got beautiful Bonnie Jean dresses for my girls for $7.82 each. Yes, you did read that correctly. They were clearanced with an additional 20% off the clearance price. Thank you Erica for letting me know about the sale prices. Thank you Erica, Molly and Irene (and anyone else I missed) for recommending Bonnie Jean. These dresses are not pictured online or I would provide a link. I really couldn't afford to spend over $100 on dresses and my husband is very pleased with my purchases. The only real cost to me was sitting in rush hour traffic on the way home, but I would do it all over again. I am very happy right now.

I actually make a note on my calendar every year to get to JC Penney after Easter to stock up on church dresses. Hopefully JC Penney will continue to supply such nice dresses! It's wonderful that they still had some dresses left over. So glad it all worked out Christine!
