Hi all,
Does anyone have a good online source to purchase the old-style (mercury) basal thermometers? I have access to the digital kind, but don't find them as accurate. My cycle is back already even with lots and lots and lots of nursing!!
Thanks!

I might be wrong but I thought they don't make mercury thermometers anymore-which is why you can't find them.
Anyone know for sure?

Right. Mercury is dangerous, but if you dont like digital, you should be able to find thermometers with a red-colored alcohol in them or other metals.
here is one
It is kind of pricey, but I know i've seen them cheaper at drugstores.

Thank you for the sources. I think I actually had one just like the one you linked to, Theresa, that dh bought from the drugstore, but it seemed soooo big compared to the mercury ones. Do they not make mercury ones anymore? It doesn't seem like it.
Do you who use digital ones have good luck with them?
Has anyone used the ones that Jenn linked to?
Thanks again!

How long has it been since they stopped using mercury? I know the 2 basal thermometers that we have from "back in the day" are mercury...They haven't been used in almost 6 years I guess now they're really special, huh?

Yes, and a real hazard, actually. Please be certain if your mercury thermometer ever breaks to be very careful how you clean it up. Do not handle the spilled mercury or breathe it in. I cannot stress enough that mercury is a real health hazard. If you suspect you are pregnant, then get dh to do the clean up. If you spill it on carpeting, you will have to cut and remove the area where it spilled.
Here is more info on mercury toxicity and proper spill clean-ups.
