Let's keep a running list here of any Catholic Mosaic books you and your children come across. They can also be beautiful, insightful secular books as long as they speak to the parent and child and leave a strong spiritual message.

You mean "new" Mosaic books?
How about:
Bagels from Benny

It might work better to have a separate thread for each book or for each month, with ideas for those specifically. They could all get lost here, kind of like they have in the Picture Book thread.

I like the idea of doing month by month.
We can save this thread for selections we're not sure where to place. Margot and I ran into a few of those.

Yes.
Looks like a lovely book, Michelle. Worth finding and reading, for sure.
But what about Jewish books? There's a whole Mosaic to be made from those!!!

Oooh! Yes please to both! Just what I need for my Catholic family with Jewish heritage .
Esther's Story by Diane Wolkstein is an Old Testament and also a good book to read for the Jewish feast of Purim.
Then there are a couple of lovely OT stories by Brian Wildsmith:
Exodus
Joseph
I love the illustrations in these books by Jane Ray:
The Story of Creation
Noah's Ark

The Santero's Miracle - could be used at Christmas time which is when it is set or near San Isidro's (St. Isidore) Feast Day which is May. It is about a santero (carver of wooden saint's images - santos) in New Mexico. The story is about the tradition of santo carving and passing on the tradition - the santero is teaching his grandson the art of santo carving and telling him about his own experiences. He is working on a carving of San Isidro. A big snowstorm has stranded them in their village, so that the boy's parents won't be able to get there for Christmas and a very sick neighbor is not able to get to the hospital. During the night after the santero prays for San Isidro's intercession a miracle occurs that is tied in with the wooden carving.
It really is a lovely book of southwest culture, Christmas traditions, faith, and miracles.

I hope it's okay to ask this here. A friend of mine is trying to find a copy of The Most Beautiful Thing in the World without much success. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

I need help finding Juanita and the Angels. I just got A Gift of Gracias and I can't believe I had never heard of it! Thank you for this!
Speaking of Jewish/OT books....we have so many we enjoy. (Let me know if anyone wants titles? My daughters' favorite Esther book is Queen Esther the Morning Star by Mordicai Gerstein----they read it over and over. Just had to add that. )

Nina,
I found Juanita and the Angels at a hs conference a few years back.
Here is a post from another CM thread:

An intereting side note about this one. We met Elizabeth in Austria -- she and my dh were in classes together at the ITI and she had kids my kids ages. She now works at Ave Maria in Nicaragua, teaching theology. Her eldest (who went to FUS) also works at AMU-Nicaragua with her husband and just had her first baby. Elizabeth may be able to tell you where to get copies of her book (which she wrote when she and her family lived in Costa Rica). Here's Elizabeth's email address at AMU if you want to try and contact her. |

Someone also mentioned that Sacred Heart Gifts and Books has it but I can't locate it there. Would be worth asking Linda if she has a copy.

Cay,
Here is another one about how God uses our offerings:
Small Gifts in God's Hands by Max Lucado
Though basically similar in theme, in some ways I think Bagels From Benny (above) is deeper than this one; but this one is beautiful in a slightly different way.

I haven't received my copy of Mosaic yet, this one might be in there already:
The Weight of a Mass by Josephine Nobisso
Here is a Protestant one that we enjoy:
Miss Fannie's Hat by Jan Karon
