We just got word that my FIL passed away this morning.

Nothing has been scheduled yet, but we've been sick since Thanksgiving, and this pregnancy has been really difficult (with a bizarre oversensitivity to car sickness for me), and now my 7 year old has a stomach virus, so it is looking like we won't be making the trip as a family, which is really hard!!

If this weren't a tragedy in terms of my husband's suffering, I would swear this week was a comedy of errors. I just got back from the urgent care center getting three stitches in my thumb.       

Plus, dh was supposed to have the whole week off but had to go into work as property manager for carpet installers on Monday and then again to meet the plumber on Tuesday because, it turns out, the office tenants in a separate building on site were flushing paper towels. And now, he has to go in tomorrow to meet the plumber because their toilets are clogged again.

My 11 year old decided to bake cookies today without asking, but I let it go (though I most assuredly would not normally make cookies while anyone in the house had a tummy bug) since he'd already started, and sure enough before he'd finished, his stomach started hurting. He still has not gotten sick, so I am hoping his are just sympathy pains from the power of suggestion.

I know your husband wants to be helping his extended family...and I know you don't want to deal with yet another ill child...and I am pretty sure, having been down that road a few times myself, that you are not happy about having to get stitches just now. I'm really sorry you and your husband have to deal with all of this right now. I remember when my sister-in-law died a few years ago (at this time of year) - it did feel like everything was conspiring against us...Christmas in molasses, almost...

Please know that you are all in my prayers as you deal with all of these obstacles.

Thank you all. Your kind words and prayers mean so much. We did make it to mass last night and we are having a lovely if pared down Christmas day. So far, everyone seems to be on the mend, so we are planning our trip to be with family accordingly. Please offer an Ave that our health will hold and no one will suffer the misery of illness away from home.
