Can you more technically-literate ladies please help me.
I would like to create a simple website for my local homeschool group. I looked at Blogger because it is free, but I think I would like to do a .com. How do I do that and is it expensive? I would like to be able to have a few tabs to non-permanent events (like my Advent retreat) and also a Pay Pal payment system for events.
If I wanted to start a blog, which I have been on the fence about for a long while, what is the best platform to do so?
My techie daughter can help me once I decide what to use.
Any help or advice would be so appreciated!

Anyone?
I would do a .org and I am leaning towards Blogger.
I am hoping to do this tonight, PST.

I wish I could help you more, Erica.
I do know that you can buy a URL from a place like GoDaddy.com
And I am pretty sure that a lot of serious bloggers have moved to Wordpress because it is a better platform, but I don't think it is free like blogger is, and there is more of a learning curve.

Blogger is free and easy, and you can buy a domain name through them, I believe. The downside is that there's less flexibility, and it's harder to set up a *website,* per se -- that is, something more complicated than a blog, that keeps a homepage up all the time, with links to other things (if that makes sense -- I'm sure there's techy language to express this more accurately).
I have used both Blogger and Wordpress -- Blogger is definitely more user-friendly, "out of the box," so to speak. But as Lindsay says, Wordpress is more flexible in terms of what you can do with it.

Thank you, Sally and Lindsay.
I used Blogger for the general homeschool one and set it up as best I could to look like a website. I created pages with the extra information needed for the retreat (directions, schedule, stuff like that). It needs a lot of polishing this morning as I just dumped old Power Point documents onto the pages.
At some point Blogger prompted me to buy a domain through Google and I purchased a .org with the same name. That was exciting. :)
What I now need to do is put in gadgets for registration including a Pay Pal link, the reason for doing this in the first place. I hope it works!
Thanks again.

Blogger will walk you through all of that -- you can add features via the "layout" function. I did always like how easy that was.

Erica
Apologies only just seen this.
Have just switched to wordpress.com but I was with blogger for many years, so happy to help with any further questions you have.

I did it! Thank you, ladies! I will post a link just as soon as I confirm one little thing in case anyone is close enough to attend.
I found a website where you can create forms - my level of need was free - and it included a pay option. The coding was all done for me right there in the form I created and it couldn't have been easier. I had to update my Pay Pay to a business account to receive money, which was also free. The site I used was Jot Form. I sure hope everything is on the up and up with this service. So far it works. I had my daughter register and it all worked. A small miracle for technolically-challenged me. :)
