Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 9th grader returned to public school last week. Academically my biggest concern was algebra. Laurea started homeschooling in 4th grade and she just did not seem to have understanding of math. Because of her lack of understanding of math she felt she was "stupid". After starting and stopping a few programs, we finally settled on MUS to appeal to her visual style of learning. Much to my relief she has been able to take her MUS understanding and apply it to her public school algebra lessons. My fears of her not being able to adapt were unfounded.
I realize she will have struggles, but hopefully they will be faced when she is not so vulnerable.
She does still get stuck on problems, even simple concepts but she can usually figure it all out and she is not defeated by the sticking points.I never believed that I would see any level of confidence in math.
Just wanted to share this joy of working with Laurea at home especially after so many math struggles and tears.

That's wonderful, Viv!      It's great that Laurea has had such a good experience with MUS and that it has given her skills that translate to confidence in problem solving! We use it and I can see the same fruit in my kids, too.

I think this is my 4th or 5th post on how wonderful MUS is!

Hi Viv,
This is a wonderful success to read about! I just purchased MUS for my sons. They were both in PS last year and this year we were just playing lots of board games, dominoes, dice, homemade games, penny-candy store etc.

Because I wasn't sure where to start the boys (they both still used fingers or manipulatives to figure addition and subtraction problems) I bought Alpha.
It's a good program for my "visual" learner. In your experience, do you think it would be okay to skip some of the lessons---like adding 0, 1, 2, etc... they seem to be a bit too easy.

My boys are currently 1st and 2nd grade levels (I hate to use grade levels, but don't know how else to say it). The younger one seems to have a better grasp of addition and "knows" most of the sums without using fingers or manips.

I just thought I'd ask you (and anyone else who has any thoughts) since you seem to have had some good results with MUS.

Thanks in advance, Viv...and again, great job MOM and Laurea!

How about taking the tests for the levels you might want to skip. If they do well, go on.
We did that alot as we "covered" the earlier levels with Brigid as we went went theought Foundations (the earlier program)to make sure she had the MUS concepts.
