Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For some character training this year I am going to read through Conferences to Children on Practical Virtue with my kids. What I'd like to do, though, is take each virtue and explore it over the course of a month, adding in saint stories, Bible passages and stories, poems, sermons from Angel Food for Boys and Girls, etc. that serve as an example of that virtue. Am I recreating the wheel? Has this been done somewhere? I like SCM's Laying down the Rails, but I am looking for something specifically Catholic.

So, chapter 1/month 1 is OBEDIENCE. What poems, sermons, saint stories that are a good example of this virtue? Do you know of any read-alouds that are a good example of obedience?

Thanks in advance!!

I used that book with my son last year too. It is a nice easy book written to the children. I basically read each chapter to him and discussed the content and virtue. Then I highlighted passages that he used for Copywork. Another program I used years ago was PACE which uses The Book of Virtues as a base. It also gives titles of books to read for each age group. My son loved the stories in BOV.

God bless,
Adele

Just ordered that book, Monica! Thanks for the suggestion! I have also used PACE in the past and we enjoyed the stories from The Book of Virtues.
I went searching for some of the resources I had bookmarked for this sort of activity, but sadly, many of them are no longer available. There is one that covers virtue in general though. It has links for all kinds of lessons, worksheets, games, etc. Maybe there is something here you could use:

The Virtues in Practice program has Obedience in its Year II program. I'll pull from there, too.
