Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Ladies, you all have been such a blessing to me these past few weeks and months. I appreciate every testimony of how the Lord has worked in your life through joy and tears.

Well, the Lord has seen fit to take our little one. I just came back from my OB appt. I’m almost 9 weeks pregnant and today they could not visualize a heartbeat on the ultrasound. There is also a pocket of blood next to the baby’s sack that wasn’t there before. Immediately the OB bombarded me with questions and “solutions”. I’m so very confused! I go tomorrow for a more informative ultrasound and then must decide on whether to do a D&C. I’ve never been through this before, I have no idea what to do. I was alone at the visit. This OB is not a Christian, but at least he and his wife have shared this experience twice. We had planned to leave on Thurs. for Atlanta for my dh’s work. I’m not sure what to do or to expect.

I have comfort in knowing that the great God that I serve is also a good God. I trust His judgment and thank Him for His blessings including the blessing of knowing that I’m not alone. It was so hard to tell my children or even to talk about it. I can’t stop crying. It is not despair, just grief. The Lord I think was trying to prepare me for this news. I think there was someone on our list that has recently experienced this. For some reason, every woman I’ve been around has talked about pregnancy losses to me. I can’t help but wonder if it was something I did or didn’t do, but if I believe that it is the Lord who creates every life, and He is in charge of our comings and goings—I must acknowledge that it is His work and that somehow it is good. That’s the only knowledge that makes any sense out of anything. God knows what it feels like to lose a child.

Please pray for me with all the well meaning comments, to handle them with grace. It is emotionally painful to wear maternity clothes and look so pregnant. I am tempted to not leave my house for a while. I would really appreciate your prayers and any advice on how to proceed.

In His Care,
Ana Betty

Dear Ana,
I am so sorry. The only place that I found true comfort was in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Please know that you are in my prayers.
The best advice I received was to read about Venerable Zelie Martin (St. Therese's mother). Although it did not take the sorrow away, it did help me.
May Mary wrap her mantle around you and bring you, your husband, and your children comfort during this sorrowful time.

I'm so sorry Ana. You asked about the trip. Don't go. No matter whether you do a D&C immediately or wait awhile, you won't be up to traveling on Thursday. I hate to think of your dh going without you .   You really do need to grant yourself some time to grieve and you need some TLC.

Oh Ana, I'm so sorry. Its so normal to cry and to feel like you did something to cause it. You didn't.

I've miscarried and I feel for you .

YOU have options in dealing with your medical treatment. Don't let a doctor talk you into a D&C if its not necessary, unless you want it. You can take medication to pass the baby or you can wait for your body to do it on its own, which could take several weeks, then get an ultrasound to make sure all the tissue has been passed, and then if not get a D&C. In the end, do what you and your doctor decide, I'm not replacing your doctor's opinion, just trying to help with the options to discuss.

Mayo Clinic--Scroll down to treatment options

I hope I'm not coming across insensitive, I just remember feeling like I was in a dream when it happened to me. I was very uncertain as to what to do.

God bless you. I'll pray for you.

Ana,

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your little baby. I believe that the Lord NEVER allows us to suffer unless it will benefit our souls in some way. I can't imagine how much you and your family are hurting over this loss, but my children and I will be offering our prayers for you and your family tonight.

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.

Dawn

Ana, I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. Know that I am praying for you and wish I could give you a big hug.

I have no advice on the D & C. I miscarried in a similar manner but ended up waiting and delivered on my own, in my home, several weeks later. It is good to know your options and decide what is best for you.

Love,
