Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We've been plugging along here with RS Geometry all year, and we've had ups and downs.

I am very sorry to say that it took me a long while (like most of the year!) to figure out that the best approach for us with this program is for me to do the work sheets along with ds- as in we each have a copy (printed from the dvd), and we work separately and compare annswers.

I had read that as a teaching tip somewhere a long time ago, and one day it floated back up into my brain. I was spending time each evening reading over his lesson for the next day and making sure I understood it, but reading over the lesson and actually doing the work sheets are two very different things with this program.

Whenever ds had a question or was confused, I would have to stop, regroup, look at the lesson again, try to figure out what he was doing- and then what he was doing wrong- and that was frustrating and time consuming for us both.

Finally I remembered reading about doing the worksheets alongside the student- because many times the student is asked to compare his work or answer to his classmates. This is hard to do without other students, obviously .

So now each day I do ZERO prep in advance. We sit down with our sheets and tackle them. This is working *so* much better. Between the two of us, we can usually puzzle out what to do and who is right if we get different answers. Often my ds is the one explaining the lesson to me
. I also have a real feel for how difficult/easy some of the work is.

Oddly, this is saving me time in the long run and helping our day move along more smoothly. Also- I enjoy doing the sheets- tinkering with the drawing tools and stretching my brain a little. I think ds appreciates that I am a comrade in math arms with him.

There is some really cool stuff in this program...
