Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So ds asks me today: "Mom, do you think the Pope would die if he touched the Ark of the Covenant?"

umm... ??

Good question.

So that sent us along on a rabbit trail discussion of important religious items that have been "lost"- the Holy Grail, the Ark, etc. And we talked about things like the Shroud of Turin and the cross found by St. Helena.

Now I am wondering if anyone has ever down any type of unit study on lost religious treasures. What resources have you/would you use: books, dvds? There seem to be many legends and theories. I think it would make for a fun study.

The Hidden Treasure of Glaston by Eleanore Jewett would be a fun novel to read in such a unit -- all about the Holy Grail. My kids have all really enjoyed it at roughly the age of yours.
