Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I saw a review for this book today over at Cathy Duffy's website, and the format intrigued me. Dr. J. Wile (Apologia) is writing this series, and this book is the second one.

CBD has lots of sample pages here; http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?event=A FF&p=1023439&item_no=042420

I liked the conversational tone, plus the idea that this book would follow along so well with an ancient history course. There is an experiment/activity for every unit.

The book is written for elementary aged children, but I learned a lot from reading the sample pages .

It is so great that there are so many good science options out there these days

Sounds like a really intriguing approach to the teaching of science - I love cross discipline for science. The sample pages of it look engaging. I looked at Cathy's site but wasn't easily finding review. I would be interested in what she says. Since this is ancient history it is probably fine - I wondered about subsequent volumes in the series - for example The Scientific Revolution which covers a period in history when the Church would be prominent. I would have some concerns about how that might be treated because of themes I've seen in other Apologia books.

Mary,

Here is the link to the review from Cathy Duffy.

I'm hoping to get more of a look at it this weekend at a convention I'm attending. I agree that later volumes would have the potential to be unfriendly toward the Catholic faith.

I really like that this book has so much to offer all in one volume- no need for a separate teacher's manual (although there is a short one for $5) or student workbook. CBD offers it for under $40... seems like a really good deal.

Thanks, Melinda. You will have to give us a more thorough review after you see it this weekend.

Well, I was disappointed not to be able to see a copy of this book. It is not sold through Apologia, so there were no copies to browse at the conference.
I had forgotten that Apologia was sold a few years ago, and Dr. Wile is no longer affiliated with the company. Rats.
