Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For those of you who have a leCreuset or Lodge Dutch oven- are they worth it? Do you use them a lot? My one concern with cast iron is how heavy the pieces are- have you had any problems with kids hurting themselves or damaging things by dropping the pots or banging them around? thanks

I have a couple of Le Creuset pieces and a Staub dutch oven, and I love them so much! I use my Le Creuset braising pan every single day, it seems. My love for cast iron cookware is one reason I so strongly dislike ceramic cooktops, though they sit nice and flat on the ceramic/glass. But other than that, I haven't had any damage or injury from using and handling them. The boys do not typically move them when they are hot but will clean them and put them away. I would love to get a bigger dutch oven some day, but they are so very expensive! Lodge did not have enameled cast iron when I bought my pieces some years ago, and I have heard the quality is good at a lower price point than the imported European brands, so I might look in that direction myself.

Eta--I use my dutch oven often in place of my crockpot, especially for things that need browning first, like a roast. It keeps the mess so much more contained. I set it in a 300-325 oven.
