Our offer on a home in our new digs was accepted. We are cautiously excited as we need to get through inspections and make sure we can get another(we still have our home here)mortgage.
This was a foreclosed home, needs some love, and we do see the diamond in the rough.
I come for advice. We just redid our kitchen(sigh) and I got new appliances. I LOVE my dishwasher. Like my refrigerator. My stove. Just isn't working for me. It is SO hard to clean. It has a grill and even that, while supposed to make life easy, again, hard to clean.
So, any suggestions? It needs to be electric. And I am really clueless as to what I want. What do you like about your stove? What do you not like? What kind do you have?
I know I like a self cleaning oven  . Gosh, if they made a self cleaning cooktop......dream........I need a drawer under for storing baking/broiling stuff. Timer. Time bake. Thats all so far.

You know.. all those things come in a fairly basic coil top electric stove.. get the one with 2 lg and 2 sm burners rather than the 1 lg and 3 sm. They have the reflector plates.. which are easy to clean in that they can be taken off and put in the sink.. and better yet.. replaced fairly cheaply. And you don't have to spend a lot of extra money on it.
Me.. I want a 6 burner but those are difficult to get and get what you want (no grills or griddles) and not cost a fortune.
But if I want a grill, there's one on the patio that doesn't need any major cleaning.. and if I want a griddle I have one that I can pull out.. what I NEED is more burners that can take big pots.. and more than 4 burners because I run out of space and have to juggle.

I hate cooking with electric, but don't really have a choice here. I had an older model Jenn Air ceramic cooktop --top of the line in its day--and replaced it with coils. If Immust have electric, I prefer the coils. You housejold looks more civilized than mine does, in summary anyways  so a smooth top might work for you.
My dream since we don't have natural gas on our street is to get induction some day.
My neighbor has a nice 36 inch, coil top range. I looked into it since the space for my cooktop is 36", but I really like my double wall oven! It is old and the timer is broken so the self cleaning feature doesn't work  , but it is worth it! I had to order my 36 inch cooktop from Lowes because it was such a lower end model, they didn't keep it in the store! So don't think you are bound by what is on display. It isn'tm ust higher end models they can special order! I love having 5 burners, even if it is 2 big, 3 small. It still allows for more space for the big pots since the two bigger eyes are so far apart. I am not sure if my neighbors stove had five burners, but the extra 6 inches were nice even in the 4 burner models I saw so large stockpots aren't so crowded. There was a big price jump from the coil electric 36 inch stoves I looked at to the ones more easily found.

I love my Smeg- 6 burners- gas
stove is electric.
easy to clean the top, the oven pretty easy, let's see I don't often need to clean it. good tip is to have foil on the bottom so just change the foil.
oh and the smeg has grill function too.

I have a convection oven in my stove, actually I have 2 ovens a small one and a large one that is convection. LOVE the ovens. It is self cleaning as well. However, it has a ceramic top, which I hate! IT warms all my pans. Heavy pots are fine, but all my frying pans don't fair well. Tired of it. It's hard to clean. It has a chip now too. It is 7 years old, but STILL.

I had a coil top electric coils broke with big pots on them. Now I have a 5 burner ceramic top which I really like and a 3 rack oven that can be convection, I love that part. I miss cooking on gas but not the gas company so all in all I am happy. It's a Frigidaire middle of the line model bought it at Lowes. -Annie
Edit: It is self cleaning too
