Help!
Because of my hip surgery I haven't been able to shave my legs for 4 weeks. I only have two things that I can wear a long maxi dress and some stretchy pants. I have a few knee length shirts that I *could* wear....except for the fact that my bear legs are kind of scary right now.
I can't bend down at all...doctor's order.
SO--->do I just wait 3-4 more weeks before I can use a razor in the shower?
--->Do I use a chemical remover like Veet?
--->Or an Epilator? (ouch, on the price)
Thanks for all of your help. I feel like this is so vain, but it's really starting to bug me. Just want a little bit of normalcy.

If I was in your situation I would have dh shave my legs. I can't type that without laughing! But, that is what I would do. Another idea is to buy a pair of pants to have more clothes option for the next month. Otherwise wait it out. You have a good excuse and if you catch anyone staring just mention that you had surgery.

Can you go to a salon and have them waxed?

I thought about that, but I am not sure if I can move enough to do it. I also can't drive.

I don't think it would be any easier physically to use the Epilator than to shave or have them waxed.
Ask your dh what he would rather do, take you to the salon and help them help you physically or shave your legs himself

I did try to do some internet shopping for a new dress but I just didn't see anything that I liked. I don't have a driver to take me shopping and I can only stand for a little bit. I am still on full crutches.
I feel so vain, I think I just want a little bit of control and normalcy. Well I can add this to the list of things I am offering up for lent....

Can you find any picture of something you like? maybe someone here would have seen it somewhere? What size do you wear? I'd be happy to help find stuff in my resting time.

I would probably ask my husband to do it too. Maybe with an electric razor instead of a regular blade.
If dh is really uncomfortable doing that and if you are desperate enough you could try duct taping a razor to a long handled wooden spoon. or something else long and sturdy. You know like a kids light saber or toy sword

I used to shave my grandmother's legs for her on the couch, even at 12 years old, maybe I was even only 10, before I ever shaved my own. I'd put a towel on my lap and she'd lay her legs over my lap and I'd lather them up with either soap or shaving cream, and I'd have a big bowl of water to use for dipping the shaver to clean it, and a cloth to wet and wash her legs afterwards. You could have dh shave them or a daughter if you have one old enough. I know for me it's not even so much vanity, as it feels awful not having my legs shaved. Hope you can get someone to help you!

I would ask for help in shaving, either my DH or a close friend or family member. I am so sorry you are having a tough time...I'd be going crazy about the shaving thing too, btw. I'm an every day shaver

Thanks for everyones help. I really don't think that DH can do it. 5 years ago I would have 'forced' him to help me and had horrible results. I am wiser now!
I probably could had my oldest son, but I might scar him....
At this point I need to wait a week. I had PT yesterday and I couldn't walk last night and I was incredible pain....This too shall pass.
Where are my posts on The Stations of the Cross....

Oh, Betsy, I'd be going nuts, too. It's the little things . . . And I'd be inclined to say that it's not so much vanity as the need to feel normal and together. Not being able to feel that way is a cross!
I'd second having someone help you with an electric razor -- not as close as the regular kind, but safer, probably!
Offering the little things in my day for you!
Sally

Go with the pants. Or buy tights for your skirts. I wore pants only post surgery for the same reason. LLBean has traditional styled pants.
Epilators cause more problems (in grown hairs) and very painful. Waxing would be too painful, too.
I'm sensitive to the chemicals in Nair or Veet. Page stuff works, but pew and bad reactions.

Leggings might be a little easier to get on than tights, but you could still wear them under your skirts.

Do you have a girlfriend that could help? I would even mention it to the PT...she might be able to quickly do it for you.
Oh, Betsy....I’m so sorry.....what a cross!! It’s not just the shaving legs, it’s everything.....hard for a busy mama to be really down. I wish I lived closer

Does your DH have an electric razor? That way he could help but you wouldn't get nicked, etc.
Otherwise - wait.
The chemical ones are awful for you.
Epilators hurt like crazy.
I know it's driving you nuts. But wait.
