My husband is currently in RCIA, and will be making his First Communion, Conversion, etc. just before Easter. (Easter Vigil)
I gave him a rosary for his Christmas present, what you would give your hubby? What does a man want/need ?
I just want to give him something special.
I also need to ask, how big of a deal would you make? I have been waiting for this for a LONGGGGGG time. I mentioned it at Christmas time to his family, and they virtually ignored me. So do I invite them? Or do I just let it be?
Thoughts? Insight?
Thank you!

Invite them. They may just have not known how to respond. I mean what do you say when you're told your son/brother/relative is changing his religion to something you don't share?
As far as a gift. Does he like praying the Rosary? Does he spend time in the car and could listen to talks or pray the rosary if he had an audio version to follow? I don't get audio talks for me dh because they make him sleepy.. not a good combo with driving
A nice personal Bible is also good.

That is such happy news, Jill. The wait has been fruitful!
Yes, I would invite them. They may or may not come but at least the invitation was extended - to show them that this is something significant for your family.

When my husband was baptized and confirmed (this happened while we were engaged), my Catholic family members gave him a biography of St. Paul, a book written by a theologian, and another book whose title escapes me.
A Bible would definitely be a nice gift (my husband takes his on his business trips).
If he doesn't have much time for reading, a CD of Catholic music that he likes might be nice for his drive to work.
I'd invite his family, too.

You are very right about the family. His father is a practicing protestant but beyond that none of them are. I will invite them.
Thank you.
He is dyslexic, and so reading is an incredible task for him. He does it when he has to, but a CD would be a very good idea! He has long drives to work!
Thank you Ladies! I knew this was the place to ask.
Should I actually mail in invitation? Or just call them. If I just mail it, I leave it up to them with no demands, or at least that is how I look at it.....

We just called people when my husband was baptized - most of his family didn't come, but that wasn't a big deal to us. (His sister converted several years later...!!!)

I would only mail and invite if you're mailing them out to everyone. Otherwise if you're doing more casual invites by phone or email for everyone else.. I'd follow suit.
You can always say something like "I want to invite you.. don't worry about letting me know now, just give me a call if you'll be there, I'm sure *my dh* would love to have you"

How exciting! Perhaps a gift relating to his confirmation Saint?

You know, I don't know who his saint is. I will have to ask him! I remember him talking about one in particular but don't know who it was.
The Mass is at 8 p.m. and it is a long Mass, so I wasn't planning anything afterwards. The boys will be shot by then. So I will literally be inviting them to the longest Mass of the year....
Thank you for your thoughts.

I just wanted to update.
I called my father-in-law last night, and yes nervously, invited him. He didn't say yes or no, which is fine.
I then also e-mailed one of his sisters, the other lives far away, and the other one, I still have to contact. To my utter shock, she is coming! I KNOW my husband will be moved by this gesture. As children they were not so close, but since have had our boys, she has become much closer to us.
Thank you SO much for suggesting I invite them!
This brought tears to my eyes, when she told me she would indeed come.

When my husband converted my parents gave him an RCIA cross (this one although if you google RCIA cross you'll find a wide variety of products).

When dh converted many years ago my mother (his sponsor) gave him a crucifix, which he wore daily until the chain broke not very long ago. Praying for a grace-filled Easter Vigil for your entire family!

If you are looking for a CD we have been enjoying all of the Bishop Sheen talks. My DH has an hour commute and he has been working through all of these talks on the drive!
