Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I searched the archives and only found books for Easter and Holy Week, not specifically for Lent, so I wasn't sure if that's where you wanted this one or not so I started a new thread. Please move if needed.

So, by pure coincidence I was reading from The Children's Book of Heroes. After we finished our story, I looked at the next one and saw "The Star Jewels" - adapted from the Brothers Grimm. The intro stated "This beautiful little story echoes the words we find in the Gospel of Matthew: "I was hungry and you gave me food....I was naked and you clothed me." Apparently there are several versions and I have this book on hold at the library so I'm hoping to see it too: The Star Child

I teach the 5-6 yr old liturgical class at our co-op and we meet next 2/27 so since it was only 6 days until Lent starts I wanted to make that our topic and this story fits perfect! I decided I'm going to read the PREPARING FOR EASTER, FASTING AND GOOD DEEDS pages from this pamphlet Celebrating Lent.

Then I was going to talk about the corporal works of mercy and have little boxes for them to decorate with photos representing some of the things they can do during Lent. The photos would be like blankets to remember the homeless; photos of elderly/sick/sad to remind us to visit, call or write; food, water, clothes and toys we can collect and share with others. Then I will probably print up a couple Bible verses as well. That way hopefully it will serve as a reminder for them throughout Lent and they can tuck away a note or token or prayer for anything they do during the 40 days.

Just thought I'd pass it along for anyone else.

Love little connections like this - thanks for sharing your great and timely find along with your ideas. So clever.
