Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We just got new shelves for my school room, and I am finally How do you organize your science and nature books?

I am thinking of organizing all my physical science books using the categories from Nebel's Building Foundations of Scientific Learning.

But then, I would also like to start organizing my nature books by season so that I can be a bit more intentional in using and strewing them.

And of course, there is overlap.

I haven't not spent a lot of nitty-gritty time sorting books yet, but I wanted to hear what others do before I start. I'd like to get some book boxes to help since a lot of my science books are paperback and thin.

Anyway, I'm hoping that some of you with large home libraries have this figured out

I also recently came across phone app for organizing a classroom or school bookroom that has me inspired to finally start tackling my own inventory. I love how you can name your shelves and track location in addition to genre.

I organize by branch of science and then subdivide further within that. So, for example, I keep Life Science books together. From there, I keep bird books together, anatomy & phys. books together, trees together...etc. I do also organize by season for those books that are season specific. We have a nice collection of winter botany-based books, and those are all kept together.

Since I have a wide spectrum of ages, I also typically organize age levels within the science branch, too. I tend to shelve my upper level books on the left, and my younger-age-appropriate books further to the right, but regardless of the age/reading level, my primary manner of organization is science branch, not reading age. ALL Botany books are kept together - from high school to preschool.

Then, I use my labelmaker and label the shelves with the science branch (I don't label subheadings because I have too many) so it's easy to find books and easy to re-shelve.

Those book boxes seem like a neat idea for small collections...like organizing something like all the wildflowers field guides. Thanks for linking! And I like that they make use of the depths of the bookshelf, too! Good use of valuable shelf real estate.
