I really have wanted to start our family to enjoy some "tea time", but have never worked it into our schedule. So with us starting our summer vacation now I thought we would start with "Lemonade time" (just can't think of anything better, already getting hot here). What I am needing help with is good reading for summer (thinking of doing swallows and amazon) and some recipes for homemade lemonade. Would also like a recipe for strawberry/lemonade too. So any helpful ideas for reading and recipes would be greatly appreciate.
Oh, one last thing. Once we start our tea time and get it planted in our schedule I would like to have tea in the winter, but I don't have a tea set where do you find one that is not to pricey? I was at Bed,Bath and Beyond this past week and they were a little expensive.
Thanks again!!

Hi Jackie (hey where is the waving smiley guy? imagine me waving...)
We started tea time five years ago with a little tea pot that I found at the grocery store for $5 and miss matched cups and mugs. It was still so special and we loved having tea so much that we just added cups here and there as we saw them. Mostly from garage sales. It soon became clear that I needed a bigger pot and a bigger creamer (I had to keep getting up to refill the pot and the creamer) so I picked up a larger tea pot on sale at Target for $10.
About three years ago dh gave me a whole tea set for my birthday. It is lovely and I only use with my adult friends. I have used the tea pot from it with the kids, but they prefer to use "their own" tea cups that they have collected here and there over the years.
By FAR my favorite tea set is one dh picked up for me for Mother's Day two years ago at SAFEWAY for about $30. It is a Johann Haviland Traditions Coffee pot (which is taller than a tea pot and perfect for our family tea) with creamer, sugar bowl and platter. They have a bunch of these for sale on ebay.
Lemonade recipe: 1 cup lemon juice and 1 cup sugar. Mix together to form a syrup. To this syrup add water to taste (I believe we add roughly 6 cups and ice).
A good story for the whole family is "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH."
Have a fabulous time!!
Love,
Michelle

I went to the local thrift and let the girls choose some mugs. They have everything imaginable-and I liked drinking out of my Wonder Woman cup!!

Can I come over? I LOVE Swallows and Amazons!
The sequel, We Didn't Mean to go to Sea, is fun too.

I love the idea of Lemonade Time for summer - we do Sun Tea here usually, mixing up herbals and nons indiscriminately with real mint and sliced key limes just for fun
Now...regarding the Swallows and the Amazons, I've been considering this for the summer too! I am wondering if we should try a thread integrating everyone who will be reading S & A this summer - could be fun! I know that there was a thread last summer here with great ideas and Macbeth's Swallowdale is perfect!
I've never started something like that here, what do you think? Any interest? With so many having blogs now we could post fun activities and pictures there and link here rather like the Marian Postings for May, perhaps?

Jackie, I just got my National Wildlife Catalog in the mail today and there are lots of tea sets on sale right now. Everything from pinecone to songbird to American wildflowers motifs. The prices seem very reasonable.

We've never read them, Jennifer, but have been meaning to. I would definitely be interested in something like this!

Okay! I'm moving the Swallows and Amazons up to the Rabbit Trails Forum and that will return this thread to the regularly scheduled Tea Time Discussion!
Jackie, try this recipe for Strawberry Lemonade. Sounds yummy! The Strawberry Patch has lots of recommended books, food, paper dolls and schooly stuff that is probably too young now that I've checked out your dc ages, might work for others though!
