Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

During the season of Advent, do you say "Merry Christmas" to others? One of our parishioners told the priest to have a Merry Christmas and he was told that "we're still a week away from Christmas." The parishioner was quite embarrassed. Awkward moment for all present. I find myself saying "I HOPE you have a Merry Christmas."

I usually wish someone a peaceful and blessed Advent during Advent...althought it doesn't bother me if someone says, "Merry Christmas" to me.

I still wish someone a Merry Christmas. It's still in the future. If I wish someone a good day.. I mean the rest of the day that's ahead of us.. so I can wish someone a Merry Christmas because it's still ahead of us to have a merry one.

If I am not going to see them again before Christmas, I will say "Have a Merry Christmas." Like Jodie said it is in the future but you can give someone greetings for a future event particularly if you wouldn't be seeing them at the actual time. Like "have a safe trip" even if it is a week away or "Have a happy birthday" if it is coming up but you won't see them.

I act as though the "Have A..." is implied, even though I say it myself when it is clear the other person is not Catholic and wouldn't understand an Advent blessing. Too bad the poor parishioner was called out.

I was so excited the other day when the man working in the billing dept. of the hospital ended the call with "Merry Christmas". Maybe it isn't seasonally correct but I will take it in a day and age where hearing "Merry Christmas" is politically incorrect.
God bless that poor parishioner.

I say Merry Christmas because too many say "Happy Holidays". I know as Catholics we should make a distinction but (don't slam me for this) here at home advent and christmas blend together. I think calling a fellow catholic out for saying merry christmas is being a snob (even if he is a priest!).
