Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm working on making a book list for our history for the last half of the school year. We are to the Renaissance era. I need books for my 9 yo and (will be) 13 yo. Mostly looking for independent read so, I would prefer to go under average reading level and avoid too challenging books.

I know I saw a book the other day somewhere about explorers and now I can't remember where I saw it and I didn't save it to my Amazon wishlist.

I don't have much time, but I wanted to recommend Jim Weiss' audiobook Masters of the Renaissance quickly. Columbus also lived during the time of the Renaissance. The DAulaire book about him might be good to read. I know that my children like the book.

Was it Columbus and the Renaissance Explorers that you saw?

Masters of the Renaissance has been added. Thanks! I don't think that was the book I was thinking. I went back to the website I thought I might have seen it and didn't find anything. Still looking.

Cassie, one of the books my ds enjoyed at around 10 or 11 was The World's Most Daring Explorers: 38 men who opened up the world

It covers several important explorers of the Renaissance era and also more modern explorers (such as the Polar explorers). It is written in a narrative style with drawings in the margins that reminded me of the Holling C. Holling books (Paddle-to-the-Sea, etc.). Each chapter is a different explorer.
