Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My water broke at 1am but I am not having contractions. Please pray I will go into labor soon and that all will be well with the baby (and me!). I've never had a birth go like this before. Thanks for your prayers!

Praying! I had that with our almost 3 year old. Labor did eventually progress, but it was slow, and the doctor wanted to give me pitocin, which I *did not* want. They like you to have the baby by a certain amount of hours after the water breaks, due to the ability of bacteria to get up to the baby or something like that. I guess the risk goes up after a certain number of hours. BUT the the story ended beautifully, inspiring us to add Maria as a second middle name for our sweet baby girl. My water broke at 8:45 A.M. my doctor graciously was holding off on the pitocin as long as she felt comfortable, as she knows me and wanted to do as I desired. By late afternoon she was counting down the hours. All afternoon I was walking the halls, swaying my hips at the side of the hospital bed(feeling kinda odd, but determined to do whatever it took to get that baby going), and rocking back and forth on a birthing ball, and PRAYING like crazy to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal for baby to be born without any pitocin or interventions. At the very hour the doctor had given that she didn't want to wait past to start pitocin a lady came in needing an emergency c-section! This delayed the doctor long enough for Our Lord and Our Lady to work their miracle. Just when the doctor got back from her c-section I had dilated to 10! She asked me if I was ready to try pushing, and being tired I said "not really", she said "let's try". Baby was born very soon after, and it was truly the most beautiful and spiritual birth I've ever had. She was born at 2 AM , and dh's Mom had told him, "even if she's born at 2 AM call me", and she WAS .

Our family will be praying for you Amanda to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal all day today. What a beautiful day to have your family's precious gift arrive right before Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving time will always have new meaning now. Many and    ! We've been praying for you daily with our prayers for Expectant Mothers, we love to know when someone we've been praying for is in labor, and we can join in holding them up in prayer throughout the day!

Sometimes it just takes a bit of time. Hopefully you've already figured that out. Relax and give yourself time for your body to get into action.

I had one birth like that and it took several hours for contractions to start and several more before they got serious.

You may not see this but I hope you know that when your water breaks you should NOT have any vaginal exams, no matter how careful they are bacteria can be moved from the outside inward and increase the risk of infection.

Thank you, everyone! I thought things were getting going at around 3am but they have slowed way down again. We are planning a home birth, so I'm just hanging out at home with my husband and one of my midwife's assistants. The kids are already at grandma and grandpa's and I am kind of wondering what to do with myself!

Thanks again for your prayers!

I like little fiddly jobs.. folding and putting away laundry. Picking up little things around the house and putting them away.. one at a time. Something tokeep me busy and moving and squatting but not hurrying.

Glad to hear this update, and that you can have a homebirth, I've always wanted to...hasn't happened yet, hoping maybe this time? Continuing to pray throughout the day for you. What a blessed gift at this time of year!! May you have a grace-filled day as you patiently await this slow-to-make-their-entrance Little One!

Still praying Amber! My midwife told me that mopping a floor on your hands and knees can be a good way to get labor moving along when things are stalled. Hope you don't need to resort to that by now and that your little one will be making their entrance into the world soon, and very soon!

Thanks, everyone! And I am still waiting... Trying to keep busy but also trying to stay rested. My midwife just finished another birth (the woman was three weeks early!) and we are going to talk about what to do next in a few hours. I guess it is time to start hand mopping the floor... Thanks for the tip, Servant2theKing!

Amber, this happened with my third labor, also a home birth. I upped my Vit. C, rinsed with a diluted solution of essentials oils after using the restroom, and took my temperature periodically. My labor finally started about 36 hours after my water broke and then progressed really nicely and I had a nice beautiful birth, my easiest. Prayers for you!

She's here!!

I finally went into active labor about 36 hours after my water broke and Hannah was born about 2 hours later. We had a wonderful homebirth, and we are both doing well. This is a Thanksgiving we will never forget!! Thank you for all your prayers, I felt so peaceful the whole time as we waited and waited for this labor to get going.
