Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you are looking for some nice fireside reading for Christmas(even without the fireplace as we suffer in our home ) , I highly recommend this book. When I searched on Amazon, many other editions came up. It was originally published in 1934, but I have the 1950 reprint, which is what I think I linked (I don't have a dust jacket, so I'm guessing).

I've had it for a couple of years from an older library's stack sale but only have managed to explore it more deeply these last couple of weeks as I make Advent plans.

There are many familiar stories and poems like Hans Christian Andersen's "The Fir Tree" and excerpts like "Christmas in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder and "The Cratchits' Christmas Dinner" by Dickens.

But there are also many delightful stories that are new to me and some unique to the book. There is the translation of a French picture book, "The Christmas Tree of Good Saint Florentin," two tales in addition to the Little House in a section "Christmas in Old-Time America," and a lengthy section called "Christmas in Other Lands" with 9 stories.

Dalgliesh herself contributes two pieces, a delightful essay called, "Christmas Customs," and a sweet story called, "White Christmas."
