Well today my 3rd child graduates from high school. She has been homeschooled from the first grade. My 2 oldest started in their 3rd and 4th grade years. I just finished decorating the house and all is dark and quite so I am sitting here thinking back on the last 12 years. Sigh...they went so fast. It is bittersweet so happy and proud of her, yet so sad of life moving on. Her 2 oldest brothers are away. Matthew who is off at school in MN and Christopher who is sitting in Germany (his troop (1st ID) was the one they mentioned on the news last week that won't be going to Iraq as they had planned next month.)So we will be missing them also. She is discerning which order she will join. She has spent time in NE at the Carmelites and now will be spending a week with a Benedictine order that just moved not to far from us. It is amazing the amount of paper work you have to do for orders, just like college questions. You also have to have a dowry with most orders. Well, I shall be patient Okay somewhat, and wait and see what the Lord will do. As my husband says "Who could ask for a better son-in-law?" . Just some rambling thoughts of a mother sitting in the dark waiting for the rest of them to come to.
P.S. my son at Chef school made the Presidents list!!!

Congratulations to your daughter and to your son. Looking back over the past few years what are you pleased that you did and what would you do differently? How did you pull real learning into her high school experience?

Jackie,
Your stats are a bit like mine.... I have 7 children, 2 boys and then a girl, and my girl was homeschooled from Kindergarten (went to pre-K while my 2 boys went to school). My second son, turning 18 this June, will be graduating too.
I remember your earlier post about empty nests Anyway, congrats on your grown "birds", it sounds like you ahave done a great job with them!

Congratulations on a job very well done Jackie (and still being done)!
My oldest dd came to me yesterday asking for more prayers for her discernment process. She has 2 years of high school left and has always been open to marriage and family; but now the calling may be getting stronger from the religious life.
What kind of dowry do most orders expect?

Oh, Jackie! What a wonderful post! Congratulations for your daughter's graduation, and for BOTH of your sons!
I am so pleased when I hear of teens LISTENING to God, to see if He is calling them.
A wise priest friend once told us all young adults should look for a religious vocation before anything else. Not all are called, but certainly, many miss their calling, as is evidenced by shortages of priests and religious.
Your husband has an excellent attitude. I am proud of all of you!
And, I will keep your whole family in our prayers, as they continue to pursue and discern their vocations.
God bless all of you, especially as you celebrate!

Thank you everyone. It was such a nice ceremony. We attend the Latin Mass and most are homeschoolers in our parish. There was 5 high school graduates. Such a wonderful homily Father gave on homeschooling today. I wish I could quote it or post it for you all. After mass he came back out and announced the names and as each rec'd their dipolma on their knees he gave them a blessing. It was so touching. During mass I thought of Nicole and her family offering my communion for her and thanking God that I was able to come this far with my children.
As to some of the questions, Dowry depends on order and family situation. Reallearning came later in my schooling years.I guess we were already doing it, but just didn't know it. This week if you could see my backyard you would see Aslan's camp. My kids are making their own movie (my 5th child has dreams of making movies) I don't know what my neighbors think . I just know that no matter how long you have been homeschooling there is always more to learn. And each child brings something new to this process. I pray that God will allow me to see them all reach this day and beyond. May I always remember to take each day and to live and love as God calls me too. Thanks again for sharing in our Joy.

Congrats, Jackie, to you and your kids...when they are born, 18 years seems like forever. The truth is, it is no time at all.
