Hi Ladies,
I’m thinking about starting a weekly Monday post of “What’s for Dinner?” Would I put that in the Loom and Larder, or put it here? I’m always curious about what others are serving. It might stimulate more menu ideas for us all.
For today:
I am fixing a beef stew in the crock-pot. I got the recipe from "Slowcooker Revolution" I should clarify that and say I loosely followed a recipe for beef stew in that book.
I didn’t have tomato paste....ketchup was used in a pinch. I didn’t do the whole “put the carrots and onions in a foil tent” on top of the beef....I just mixed it all in. It looks great! I do like this book a lot. With so many food allergies in our house, I tend to read cookbooks like this and pick and choose from the recipe. There are new twists in this book for using your crock-pot.
How about you? What’s for dinner??

I'd love to join in when I can!!
I'll move this series to Loom and Larder since it does fit there best. And...I added "What's For Dinner" to your thread title, too.
Dinner menu for my week:
White Chicken Enchiladas tonight (Pioneer Woman)
Pasta and Meatballs (Pioneer Woman)
Cheeseburger Salad (Pioneer Woman)
DIY/Clean out the fridge night -- Love those!
Cheese Pizza with Caesar Salad for Friday
Happy menu-making all!!

Oh great week to start.. I actually have a plan to share
tonight is stuffed baked potatoes (thinking of some steak and mushrooms sauted for a topping) I serve broccoli with this.. it's great on a potato
Tues - bean and rice burritos.. likly to saute some veggies to go on these too.. use up leftover taco meat as well plus regular burrito/taco toppings like sour cream, cheese, lettuce, tomato, salsa etc
Wed - spaghetti with salad and garlic bread.. I started making this by melting the butter with real garlic and spooning it onto the bread before toasting it in the broiler and everyone LOVES it. And garlic is so good for helping with colds, glad I found a way to get the kids to eat it.
Thursday - corn dogs with some sort of frozen potato and some canned fruit (need an easy to cook and clean up meal)

Let's see...we're trying to eat the food we have on hand this week and early next week...
Cheese tortellini with homemade sauce
Lentil soup (perhaps with chicken; don't know yet)
Turkey meat loaf or meatballs, green beans, orzo
Chick-fil-A for Dancing Daughter, leftovers for me
Baked ziti or more cheese tortellini, whichever helps free up the most space!

Yeah.. I just taped a note to the fridge that says "EAT LEFTOVERS" and then in small letters (not the beans) because I need those for tomorrow night's dinner.

I haven't made any plans for this week! Dh got turkey (wild fresh from last month hunt) out of the freezer this morning so I hope that means he wants to cook dinner tonight. He likes to fry it which I HATE, but it's hard to complain if he actually is doing the cooking. I typically bake it in the oven. Sometimes I cut it into small strips and cook in a small amount of olive or coconut oil on the stove top and then use in tacos or stir-fry veggies.
I'm looking forward to see what everyone else is cooking for some ideas. I need to check the freezer too. I know I have some frozen left-over soup (bean and veggie) we will have one night.

This is a great idea
Tonight here it is chicken and rice. Last night was black beans and rice topped with salsa and cheese, tortilla chips on the side, and fruit smoothies. Tomorrow night is lentil soup.
Wednesday... likely to involve something with baked sweet potatoes...
We did baked potatoes for lunch here with chopped cooked broccoli and cheddar cheese on top. These went over extremely well.
I've been on a mission the past month to make my kids love broccoli

-tonight I have three pounds of chicken breasts in the crockpot and I will shred it later, season, and serve on dinner rolls.
-if we don't have leftover chicken sandwiches, I will use the rest of the shredded chicken to make Chicken Curry (we will have that two nights.)
-Saturday we are having baked beans and ham. My younger son will be turning 8 and that was his request (Saturday beans is a family tradition, he asked for ham instead of hot dogs.)

Oh my goodness, you all took it to the next level letting us know what your entire week’s menu is!! I am embarrassed to say that I hardly ever do “Menu” planning....I tend to buy things we can eat and then throw it together. Ok....off to do some planning. I have it all “up in my head” but sometimes there is a “system failure” and I really should have it written down and planned. Thanks for moving it, Jen!

Whoa nellie! I guess that's not a staple for an Aussie family?!
Sloppy Joes are super easy: ground burger, tomato based sauce, on top of a hamburger bun!

I like it with bbq sauce for the tomato base with the ground burger.. it should be thick enough to stay on the bun but still pretty squishable (hence *sloppy* joe).

Great thread!
I am in that "in between" meal planning stage. I had my fall meal planning weekly schedule - which ended with the end of fall soccer last weekend. I am putting finishing touches to my Advent and Christmas season meal plans - and I am sort of in meal limbo for these two weeks. I need to keep us on a healthy meal plan, while also preparing to host Thanksgiving dinner for many, and try to get all my Advent/Christmas stuff done (I like it over before Advent starts)
Here is what we are having:
Monday (last night) - we grilled! It was 65 degrees and felt like spring. Probably last BBQ of the year. Today there is an icy wind.
Tuesday - Cranberry beef in the crockpot - serve with roast potatoes and garlic/ginger sauteed green beans.
Wednesday - quinoa and black beans
Thursday - five spice chicken, rice, roasted broccoli
Friday - vegetable fried rice (using up leftover veggies and eggs for protein
Saturday - chicken soup and fresh sourdough bread
Sunday - dutch oven roasted chicken and vegetables.
(Just had to share some culinary success - I am finally in the sourdough groove - it is my 9 year old's science project and everyone loves it. It is like having a pet! Also we are making our own kiefer and yogurt - again like having pets, but everyone has a job taking care of them!)

Most recipes that ask for milk as a small bit of liquid in a recipe can be substituted with water without any issues.. at most in a bread if there's not sugar added you might add a bit of some type of sugar since it'll help the yeast(whether store bought or in sourdough) multiply.
