and should I be worried???
My 17yr old has a mild addiction and I just don't get it. She showed me a trailer for a film and it was just too bizare for me. I am more or less left speechless ... and helpless. I hear the melody hummed by all 4 girls during the day once the oldest begins, the others chime in.
I am plain stumped!
She is just so entertained by Dr. Who and talks about the 1st, the 11th and the 10th and how many are there???
I really don't need to understand it all, but do need to know if I should worry and get my dd help and an addiction counselor, which may be a bit exaggerated, maybe.?
Does anyone know anything about "the Doctor".?

I really don't know much about it either, but I do know that dh has has the same "addiction" as your dh. He's gotten all the old shows from the library and watched them all over the past 6 months or so. I don't get it, but he really enjoys "the doctor." He's a decent judge of movies and I trust that he wouldn't be spending so much time on something immoral or bad, so I am sure you are OK there. But as for the "addiction" or obsession with the show part, I'm still wondering about that . Basically, I just used a lot of words to say, you aren't alone in your wonderings
God bless,
Christine

Each time they get a new actor to play The Doctor, the character undergoes a transformation, so it is the same person but a different personality.
I like the show. I've always been too sanguine to love any one show enough to be a hard core geek about it, but it is an addictive type show. It is a very zany, very British sort of Sci Fi, but it has the same sort of following as Star Trek. You can "like" Star Trek or be a Trekkie, if you know what I mean.
I would not worry.

It's funny you asked this....I have no idea what who or what it is!
But, on Ravelry.com I see new knitting patterns almost daily with references to Dr. Who. I don't think your daughter is alone!

Dr. Who is a nearly 50 year old British Sci-Fi show (We nearly share the same birthday Dr. Who 11/23/63; me 11/24/63!). There's a big 50th anniversary celebration for it next week.
The Doctor has been played by 11 different actors over the years, some more memorable than others. If you have Netflix, there are a few classic Dr. Who shows and all of Dr.9, 10 and most of 11 on it. My favorite is #10 (Scottish/ Royal Shakespearean Theater actor David Tennant; he's also in The Decoy Bride-also on the Netflix).
God bless,
Mary-NY (who remembers watching Dr. Who as a teen and still loves it.)

Mary, I am also a 1963 baby! So, I do have something in common with Dr. Who.
We are a half century old!

Stephanie,
Do you feel like half a century sounds older than 50?
Something else in common: my Helen is an '03 baby also.
God bless,
Mary-NY

Oh my goodness, we are BIG Dr Who fans around here. My older three boys love it. Like someone said, it is very British, the humor is oh so dry.....very witty writing, fast paced...I haven’t seen every single episode, but there have been a few that definitely were NOT for the younger crowd. Some have been very spooky and creepy....not in an “R” rated kind of way, but more in a “pyschological” way. It can be thought provoking....we’ve had decent discussions after some, asking what slant the writer was taking...watch a few with your kids and see what you think. Like I said, the last few years there have been some episodes that were not kid friendly but for the most part it is a witty sci-fi show.

Right here with you. For those of us without BBC, major cities are showing the 50th anniversary special and minors cities on Monday. Our show here in Madison, WI sold out. My son has asked off work and invited all of his friends. I think it is a fairly safe addiction. And yes it probably means your kids are geeks:) David Tennant rocks Mary, my 17 ds disagrees with me!

My daughter is hooked also (she is 13), and knows every doctor, every season, etc. She drives us nuts because that is all she talks about (for now), but being that my husband is English and we watch a lot of BBC and PBS, we are not too surprised.
We are also hooked on Inspector Lewis, Endeavor, Midsomer Murders (strange too), Downton, The Paradise, and pretty much most shows on BBC or PBS.
