Has anyone had experience with this supplement? I was taking these for perimenopausal symptoms and stopped recently to assess my body's needs.
It's been about 2 months now and I feel like I am in need of some good vitamins.
My neighbor thought this was junk and upon her suggestion I stopped taking them, but feel my body needs some good supplemental support at this time.
Any experience or reccommendations regarding this product or others would be greatly appreciated.
God bless,
Celeste

There are people (I was one) that feel that we should be able to get all of our nutrition from the foods we eat. It makes sense. But with modern farming practices leaving the foods with less nutrition than they have historically had. And the rising costs of getting good food. Plus the taxing of our bodies with pregnancies and nursing babies, modern stress etc. It's really not a bad idea to take a quality multi-vitamin.
Sure you can overdose on vitamins.. but remember that the RDA is the minimum required for preventing deficiency diseases NOT the optimum for good health.. and the overdose is more even than that.
I good book like Prescrition for Nutritional Healing will really help you figured out how vitamins work and dosages that are safe and effective. Not to mention tons of information on herbs and foods that will increase the nutrition you need for particular ailments.
I haven't used optivite though I've heard good things about it. I have use the Rainbow Light Prenatals (6pills a day type) and the NF Formulas Prenatal Forte (also 6 pills a day) with really good results. (and I should start them again and see if it doesn't help with peri-menopause stuff too)

I love Optivite. I, too, am using them for pre-menopausal difficulties. I've been using them for about 4 months and have noticed such a difference.

Not knowing exactly why your neighbor thought they were junk it is hard to know how to address your concerns, but it makes sense to me that a vitamin specially formulated to address areas related to perimenopause would help.
I have never been good at taking vitamins in the past but finally found some good quality ones that I can manage with regularity (gummies ), and I know they help.

Thanks for your input ladies.
I just miscarried. The baby would have been our ninth child.
I lost a lot of blood and my iron was really low. I had been taking Optivite for at least 3+ years and feeling pretty good on them.
Now I am dealing with hormones, stressed by the miscarriage and anemia. Just trying to piece myself back together.
I know these things take time and good research.
My neighbor, though well meaning is a 60 something who only had one child. I think she was comparing her needs with mine, who have had multiple pregnancies and has greater nutritional needs.
I went ahead and reordered my Optivite and am now taking an iron supplement. I hope things get back to normal soon.
Anyone elso have their iron get really low from so many pregnancies or blood loss?
Thanks again and God bless.

My iron has been really low (not actually checked though) from blood loss with a miscarriage. It's hard to bounce back from blood loss. Regardless of what you take to help with iron, the red blood cells can only be built so fast.
I've found that alfalfa is my best iron supplement.. no side effects and great recovery. With my last pregnancy I was in the hospital for months with unstable placenta previa (I would bleed randomly, sometimes a little and sometimes a lot) and I took alfalfa along with my prenatals.. my doctor was regularly amazed that my levels were as high as they were (just barely below normal).
Let me look and see if I still have some stuff I wrote on recovering from blood loss.

Celeste!
One of the best ways to get iron is using a cast iron skillet if you have one. My midwives recommend Floradix as an iron supplement. It is pricey, but it is easily absorbed.

Just wanted to say, I'm so sorry for your loss!
I took Floradix after a heavy blood loss miscarriage, and it really helped. I also second the helpfulness of alfalfa tablets.

CelesteMary, I'm so sorry for your loss.
I was a regular Optivite user until my first pregnancy and I just couldn't stomach them anymore. Marilyn Shannon's book elaborates on the benefits. Mainly they are a great source for B vitamins and regulating hormones. I did find I needed to take extra magnesium.

I'm in the same boat as Jenn and Lindsay - I think they're fabulous and worthwhile vitamins! I read about them and tried them because of Marilyn Shannon's recommendation, too. They really helped with my hormones and my cycles - that was almost 10 years ago though. I just can't take them anymore - I stopped taking them when I got pregnant with my 3rd. They just do a number on my stomach, and I can't swallow 6 of them a day. So, I've found what works best for me is the gummi-vite. BUT...all that was to say that if you CAN stomach them and don't mind swallowing the 6 vitamins a day, it is an EXCELLENT vitamin for helping your hormones in that recovery period!
I had a full term infant loss 14 years ago, and took them after that loss to help me, and they really did help (I could see it when I charted my cycles). Then, I had an early miscarriage between my second and third...so that would be 11 years ago, and it helped me recover then, too. But when I got pregnant and super sick again with my third, that's when I stopped taking them.
Many prayers for you, Celeste!

Thanks so much everyone for your helpful and very kind words of support and prayers.
Thanks for sharing what has worked for you. I will be checking into these. I know it takes time to rebuild and I am trying to be patient with myself and let my body heal.
I am ready to get going and I hear God tell me this is a time to slow down and take care of myself.
It's so hard to do but I feel like He has got my full attention now.
Thanks again and God bless.

Thank you Jodie.
I would be very interested to hear anything you have about recovering from blood loss.
