Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

in my area and my Facebook page if full of bragging parents. Is it just me or am I weird? I couldn't get on facebook and say my child is so awesome, the teachers love my child, and my child is the smartest kid at school. Even one parent said she knew better than to brag about her child on facebook, but was pressured into it because people would think her child got a bad report if she didn't post something good . . . . . hers was the longest.
I wish I hadn't checked facebook this morning or last night!

Yeah, just tune it out. Facebook breeds the weirdest dynamics; it's a whole new realm of peer pressure, for people who you'd think would have outgrown peer pressure. It draws out the least desirable qualities from otherwise great people and broadcasts them to the world. Not . . . that . . . I'm not addicted to it, or anything, myself . . . but it's easy to come away feeling kind of poisoned by it sometimes.

Years ago, when we lived in TN and used an online umbrella school to satisfy state requirements, said school issued everyone a t-shirt that said, "I'm not talking to myself. This is a parent-teacher conference."

I wish I still had that shirt. Greatest slogan ever.

Sally

A few weeks ago this column appeared in our local paper.
He didn't get one negative response to that column, so you are not alone.

I was really thinking about this while doing school and chores this morning. These same moms express concern and worry over their kids (usually not on facebook). I guess because of the fact they aren't around there kids all day they don't know what is going on with their kids and they greatly depend on the words of the teacher. I guess their post is just relief because they were expecting the worse or just the fear of the unknown. Sometimes it's hard not to post something when your overjoyed.
