Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am realizing that there will always be something I feel I don't do well as a mom and homeschool teacher. . . For instance - I used to have my kids do cleaning chores, but the last couple years thats fallen away and now I wonder - does my 10 year old know how to do chores. Also, I start the year thinking that THIS year I will finally get music and art into our day - but alas that rarely happens (except for dd 16 who goes to art class cause she's good at it!). Then there is the thought - "are we writing enough in school".

Anyway - it seems it ends up feeling like guilt - that there is always something I drop the ball on.

Then I realize - we aren't perfect. I will never do EVERYTHING right or do EVERYTHING I should.

Anyone relate to this?

Oh, gosh, let's see . . . just about EVERYDAY!!! I don't think we moms are ever truly at peace with how we homeschool. There will always be challenges, joys, frustrations, cheers, etc. I just pray for perseverance and patience.

One thing that keeps me going was a quote I read from the Wall Street Journal about teaching in general:

To tolerate is to encourage
To demand is to get

YES!

I always feel like there is so much more I should be teaching my kids and there is so much we never get to either.

A typical response I hear over this concern is that they are learning more than they ever would in public school . . . . this doesn't help me to feel better about it at all!

At certain times of the month, it feels like a crushing weight. The rest of the time, I'm pretty good at thinking it, processing it, and pushing it aside. It was hard when G was really bad at writing (both spelling and penmanship) during his Cub Scout meeting this week.
