Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello!

First time I've tried posting here. We'll see if I figure it out.

We are due for a baby boy December 22. I think this year could be a fantastic year for personal reflection during Advent. When could I identify with Mary more than this year? Anyone have any great ideas of how to foster personal reflections for myself during this time? For the family as a whole would be just fine too.

Thanks!!

Ruthie
mama to 7.5 year old twin boys, a almost 4 year old girl, and a boy on the way.

Hi Ruthie -- Congratulations on your new baby! Advent is such a beautiful time to be expecting.

If you'll permit me some *shameless advertising: my husband has written a book of Advent reflections, available from Tan books.

We love all the traditions of Advent: purple (I have a purple tablecloth -- actually a shower curtain! -- that I found in a thrift store), candles, a special table blessing, O Antiphons, the St. Andrew and Christmas novenas . . .

I always take the injunction from the carol "People Look East" to heart: "Make your house fair, as you are able." The nesting that you do for a new baby always seems especially poignant and meaningful in Advent.

Again, congratulations -- there's never a bad time for a new baby, but right before Christmas is such a beautiful season!

Sally

*eta: We don't actually realize any profit from sales of this book. Royalties are pretty much nonexistent. I just very biased-ly think it's a beautiful Advent book!

Welcome, Ruthie!! How exciting to have one on the way due so close to Christmas! Congratulations!

Lately I have been using Rosary Meditations from Mother Teresa of Calcutta. It is such a beautiful book! I read one mystery reflection (2-3 pages) each time I sit down, then I reflect on those thoughts throughout the day or the week, especially if I am praying the rosary but even when I'm not. It is not an Advent book, but of course the Joyful Mysteries are included and it certainly helps my relationship with Mary.

Ruthie

Just wanted to say congratulations I'm also due then, on Dec 18th.

One thing the children want me to do is place our baby in our nativity crib before they come out on Christmas morn.
