Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 13yr dd has requested to do 3 zoology units this year. She wants to do fish, mammals, and birds. I was wondering if there was any other resources besides the Apologia "Creatures of" series.
I'm not against using the Apologia series per se, but I was hoping to find something else.

Thanks,
Al

The World of Animals. There are several supplements to this book. Check out the link. It is protestant, but I don't know how much that shows in the books.

This looks interesting. I also found this:
Holt Science & Technology: Animals, Short Course B.
I can get it cheap enough used on Amazon so even if it is not quite what we want, i won't be out by much. If it does work we will use it as a spine. Now I just have to find a good couple of unit studies for fish, mammals, & birds...

My daughter volunteered at a local nature center as part of a zoology course. I added books and videos but have not included a formal zoology book yet.

One other idea: Sassafras Science. This is recommended for K-6, but might work with an older child.

Are you trying to keep this middle school-ish or would you want to bump it up to high school level? I have a 9th grader who wants to do zoology this year. I've ordered the Zoology Coloring Book and I've been pulling books that we already own off our shelves, but I haven't made any real plans yet. I was just logging on to ask if anyone had a decent high school zoology book list.

If you're into online classes at all, CurrClick has a sale on right now for "project-based" science classes, including zoology. Here's a link to their quarter-long "Mammals" unit. You can do a whole year of zoology, focusing on various topics, or just do a quarter or semester. The price right now is amazing, and the sale is on till the 28th.

They do also do Apologia-based courses, but these project-based ones I think use no text and are more hands-on.

We haven't done one of these classes, but I am eyeing them, especially as my kids are enjoying an online Lego Club through CurrClick right now.

Sally, I could kiss you! That class is exactly what my daughter has been looking for . I am praying we can figure out the time thing and the class will line up for her

Somebody turned me on to CurrClick not long ago -- I'd heard of them, but not really paid attention or bothered to find out what they were. And now. Oh, my goodness. Both my younger kids are doing Lego Club, and my youngest daughter is doing American Girl Club. And I'm debating what else to sign us up for while this sale is on. I don't want to overload us with online things, but the science/nature classes look really good, and I think the variety would be really refreshing for the kids. I like that we could do a quarter here and there at will, so that if something doesn't work for us, it's not a year's or a semester's commitment.

Anyway, I hope the times work out for you!

Sally
