Friends,
I know we all have issues that tug at our heart strings and bring us to our knees so I share this with you not knowing this little girl but as a mother with a child that has a peanut allergy and is the same age as this girl. I cannot even imagine this tragedy and cannot stop crying. My DS has tremendous anxiety over his peanut allergy and we constantly reassure him but then when I read a story like this, it makes my heart stop.
So, as a prayer request for this girl and her family as well as a prayer request for my DS, Alan, and a public service announcement of sorts, PLEASE do not take these allergies lightly. I would even ask that you educate your children if they have friends with allergies to never offer them something w/o double checking. They can be fatal in moment. This girl's father was a dr. and attempted to treat her with 3 epi-pens but she still couldn't fight off her body's reaction and she suffered cardiac arrest.
13 year old CA girl dies from peanut allergy
God Bless,

We will pray here, also.
I needed this reminder as we have become somewhat lax in our allergy issues as we have never really had a big event. I guess I should get a non-expired epipen at dd's physical on Monday.
My dd also has much anxiety about her allergies. We will keep Alan in our prayers. Hang in there mom, I know how hard this issue is
My heart just breaks for this family

Will pray for you and your 13 yo. We have a severe peanut allergy here with our oldest, and just discovered a pecan allergy in the youngest.

Adding my prayers for this tragic situation and for everyone here who has to face down these worries every day.
Please don't be afraid to speak up about allergies! We have a tree nut-free carpool and it's no bother to anyone. Dancing Daughter's camp last week was nut-free...all I had to do was read labels and buy nut-free items, which was no trouble at all.
We all need to work together in these situations, and we can teach our children to read labels and be advocates, too.

With a tree nut-allergic daughter, this hit home for me too. So sad for this family.

I read this on my way home from a college visit (3 hours away) with my son and his doctor appointment, of all places, at the allergist who will be taking over his care for allergy shots and asthma management while at college. It was a stressful day as I kept thinking about how this is going to be completely in his hands now....with multiple food allergies (including nuts)....and being on the tail end of a bad asthma flare from having pertussis...and having to trust doctors we have hardly any dealings with....and a college that doesn’t seem to get it.
My heart was especially heavy yesterday because the next big guy in line for college in four years has some of the worst food allergies. He is allergic to all fresh fruits and veggies...everything has to be cooked....and his milk allergy is awful, as well as poultry, nuts, peanuts, and several legumes. I have no idea how he could go off to college, I really don’t see it. We don’t even eat out. I know I am suppose to empower him somehow, but his anxiety, (like your Alan’s anxiety) and quite honestly, MY anxiety after having many scary 90 mile hr runs to the hospital hoping his epi holds before we get there....yeah....I totally get it.
I am doing some research and have come up with some websites that I am reading through, I’ll share if they seem helpful. We must push through and educate them to be their best advocates. THe reality is, for some of these kids, including my own...I am not quite sure how they can regularly eat out or trust other people 100% to fix their food. I could see my guy needing accommodations, which I believe now that food allergies are recognized by the ADA, where he could fix his own food in an apartment on campus.
That all said I’m praying, Kathryn, praying for the family that lost their daughter, and praying for your Alan and all kids who fight this fight. It is just as hard as my other medically intense kids with all of their surgeries and such.

This is a mother of an allergic child's worst nightmare. The poor family. We have severe food allergies here and have much empathy!
