My heart breaks for their families. I know this must hit close to home, Jodie. Praying for the souls of these brave individuals and for their families and for all the firefighters who continue to risk their lives fighting wildland fires this summer. I remember when we lost the 14 firefighters here in Colorado 20 years ago - the hotshot crew from Prineville, OR. All so very sad...

It is a high number. The highest since 1933. The winds had apparently been stable coming from one direction for at least 7 hrs and then suddenly did a 180* turn so they went from having the wind at their backs to having the fire pushed toward them.
