Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Big request! I'm putting together a human anatomy unit for my will be 4th grader ds. We are using CHC Behold & See 4 as our spine. I'm looking for living books on human body topics, but not general information. Perhaps real life application of the topics in Behold & See. For example the "brain and central nervous system" chapter gives all the basic information that ds needs to know. I'm looking for books about health care professionals that work with the brain or about what happens when the spinal cord is severed. I need book ideas on each system of the body. It's a huge request, but maybe you have read some good books on these topics.

Not what you are asking for, but I am planning to have my 4th grader do some anatomy the second half of next year, and I am using The Body Book as a supplement. I thought I would throw it out there as a source.

I think a great addition to your plan would be Galen and the Gateway to Medicine. It has some neat info on there about early anatomy and the challenges the great doctor faced trying to learn about the human body when it was still illegal to dissect one. We read it this year with my 4th grader and he appreciated it...

here are some resources one mom used,
though these appear to be more activity based than strictly living.

However, I often find that if I look up titles like these on Amazon, scrolling down will lead to the part about "customers who bought this book also bought...", which can turn up some gems.

Biographies about famous scientists would be a great supplement here.
Louis Pasteur would be good for the brain/central nervous system.
Rabies, of course, affects the brain in a terrible way. Pasteur's whole story is very ground-breaking and exciting.

Yes, this is the type of books I'm looking to find. Thanks!

Thanks Melinda! I think biographies in the medical field is a great idea.

The living human body book we've read is I Am Joe's Body but it's more a book I give my teens to read.
