Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Betsy, I will be attending our Eucharistic Congress between June 5-9... but in Cologne! I will spend one day there.
I have never been to one before. I am praying that it is pleasing to Our Lord!
(I am not one for huge meetings/Masses, therefore my prayers)

Stephanie,
You are in my prayers! I am not much of a crowd person either, so I understand your feelings.

From the ones that I have been to I think that you will enjoy yourself and come back renewed with the Holy Spirit! And, while the Mass at the end has been a huge gathering that is *slightly* overwhelming. I have always found it extremely uplifting to see our Bishop and so many Priest and laypeople together, on fire for their Catholic Faith. If you watch any secular media would would never think that this is possible!!!!!

I would love to hear how it goes after your EC!!!!!

If there are any lurkers that will be there please stop by! :)

Also, if you could offer a quick prayer for my safe travels and that my kids will be good. I am leaving them for 3 days and I am more worried about them then the conference.

Betsy, it was just wonderful!

I was there on Saturday and took part in a pontifical solemn Mass in the extraordinary form in St. Kunibert church. There were Pontifical Masses in all 12Romanesque Churches in Cologne. At the end of Mass we sang the "Salve Regina" before the Te Deum and it sounded so glorious as if our voices were truly reaching heaven. During Mass I was standing in front of a pillar and could not see anything behind me if I had wanted to. I really thought that the Schola was standing up on a balcony at the back of the church. The voices were coming from above. It was only after Mass that I saw the organ and schola just off to the side in the back half of the church. It was unbelievable how great are the acoustics in that church.
After Mass we had a wonderful meal in an outside restaurant, where our young priest answered all of our questions about the Mass. Catechism par excellence!

Afterwards we attended a lecture by Prof. Dr. Manfred Hauke about the theological defense of Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Very, very good... and I didn't catch the half of it, but I want to find the lecture written somewhere.
It was really difficult to choose which lecture to attend, there was such an abundance of great, faithful Bishops and theologians sharing.
I was able to spend a whole hour in adoration and prayer at the end of the day in the church St. Maria of the Assumption totally not romanesque, but very baroque! Heaven!
Just a little tidbit... near the end of my prayers I felt the need to pray especially for Cardinal Meisner (of Cologne) asking God to protect him from his enemies and in thanksgiving for sponsoring this congress. And then what happens??? Cardinal Meisner walks right by me and kneels down in the pew right in front of me!
Yes, it was truly a very blessed day, and I believe the blessings will continue and hopefully will strengthen the Church here in Germany.
(This was the first national Eucharistic Congress here in Germany) It was very much needed!

Stephanie,
WHAT A BLESSING!!!! Thanks for sharing your story. It gave me goose bumps.
I won't get off on a tangent but, but besides the amazing spiritual graces for such an event, it's so necessary for other to realize that they aren't alone in their Faith!!!!!! It just so encouraging to bring so many people together.

I hope that this becomes an annual event for you and the Holy Spirit can work through it.
