Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

area.

My dh and I will be attending the Catholic homeschooling conference at University of St. Thomas May 31- June 1. This is the one: MN Conference.

Two questions
1) Is the university in a nice area, so that we can feel good about a hotel close by? If not, do you have hotel/area recommendations?

2) We need a restaurant recommendation for Sat night. It's close to our anniversary, so we'd like to go somewhere nice before we return home on Sunday.

TIA

Anita

Edited to correct typo. (Thanks Susan!)

I'm afraid I'm not much help with your questions, but I'm excited to see you will be there! I've gone the last three years and will be there this year again.

I always stay in Morrison Hall, in the dorm units which are like little apartments: common area, four bedrooms, two bathrooms. They are very nice and comfortable, but not exactly romantic if that's what you're looking for in your weekend away .

I don't leave campus once I get there--so the neighborhood looks fine to me during the day, but I've never ventured out at night.

I don't live in Mpls/St Paul right now but I grew up there and went to school at the U of M/Mpls and my brother went to school at St. Thomas.

Some recommendations about things to do/see in the area:

St. Thomas is near a historical area of St. Paul--Summit Avenue, that has some beautiful historical homes, including Victorian mansions and homes where Sinclair Lewis and several homes where F. Scott Fitzergerald lived for a while. Here's a online tour of a few of them:

The James J. Hill House is also on Summit Avenue:

The Grand Avenue area (redeveloped historical area) isn't too far away and they have a variety of restaurants including some restaurants featuring unique international cuisines:

I don't live in St. Paul now but we used to and my husband went to St. Thomas (there is a typo in your post--the conference is at the University of St. Thomas).

It is a very nice neighborhood. Near the river---my inlaws live very close by and we walk there all the time. And Summit Ave is beautiful. We also loved the Hill House tour. I don't know about hotels. Anything downtown would be fine and St. Paul is mostly pleasant, safe, and easy to navigate.

For your anniversary, look at W.A. Frost. We did a brunch there one year. It's just fabulous and very "St. Paul" and on beautiful Cathedral Hill which is a little neighborhood worth visiting (along with the AMAZING Cathedral which was our parish there).

Have fun! We love St. Paul.
