Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just a few minutes to say, "Hi!"

3 boys playing baseball and planning Devin's wedding - that's pretty much all I have to say through June .

How's everyone doing? How's Easter?

Love,

We had a busy Holy Week. Friends invited us to a special meal on Holy Thursday. Afterwards, we were able to walk to church for Mass. We were invited back for Good Friday, where after Mass, we helped them make Caplettes (sp?) for three hours.    On Holy Saturday, another friend, who had a baby three weeks ago, invited us over for an Easter egg hunt. Sunday was going to be very wet and cold, so the egg hunt was early. Afterwards, we colored our eggs, and watched the children's Passion.

Easter was quiet and simple. Last year I didn't even make it to Mass. I was home holding my brand new baby boy.      I made an easy meal; ham, sweet potatoes, eggs, pineapple, green beans and Hawaiian bread. I really wanted to make Paska bread, but...some day! Dessert was your Easter basket.

Happy Easter!

We drove to Pittsburgh last Saturday, went to Palm Sunday Mass that night, cheered Dancing Daughter on to a 3rd place finish in her dance competition Sunday, drove to Boston that day and spent all of Holy Week at the World Irish Dance Championships.

Dancing Daughter's team did well, all things considered, placing 12th out of 15 teams, and they really, really loved being on the Worlds stage!

We drove home on Holy Saturday and went to our choir's Easter brunch and Mass the next morning, then hosted 6 friends for Easter dinner.

Monday, we were pretty much comatose.

One nice thing about Boston - there was a Catholic chapel in the mall attached to the Convention Center, so I was able to pop in for a quick prayer. Lovely!

(Actually, there are many nice things about Boston, but this one is relevant to this thread!)

Easter was good. Didn't make it to church as much as I wanted too starting with a snow storm on Palm Sunday. A new baby come into the family on Good Friday (a cousin of mine had their first-a girl). I did a first time for us family Easter basket and it was a hit. I got some outdoor play equipment (bat and balls) and some Unreal candy. This week is hectic because we are having a garage sale on Friday. It always stresses me and I don't know why! I'm hoping to make $100 to pay for a couple of summer activities. I hurt from all the lifting of heavy boxes I did today, but it felt good to make some much needed room on our storage shelves!!

I haven't joined in a Wednesday shout out in so long!!!!

I'm giving myself 5 minutes to *shout-out* because I miss joining in with all you ladies!

So...here's my super summarized 5 min. shout-out:

:: This little baby should arrive some time this month. 'Nuf said there. I just finished getting all the baby stuff out and washing it - phew!

:: It's a delightful Easter week! We take the entire Octave of Easter off! Mornings are for movies, and afternoons are for helping mom with projects that she can't do herself! My kitchen floor tiles are getting a complete hand scrubbing and polishing (it is BADLY in need!!) - bliss! And the garage is next on the list!

:: We have 4 weeks left to wrap up the school year.     Then time to get planning for a senior, 8th grader, 4th grader, and K/1st grader!!!

:: Made a delicious grilled asparagus and melon salad for dinner last night!

:: Spring is definitely here in North Alabama - in spite of the fact that it's a little cool and dreary today! Sadly, I can't bend at the waist to weed any of my gardens, and they definitely look the poorer for it. BUT....my dh and kids have offered to do some weeding work for me this weekend in the berry orchard and my front garden. We hope to put in a late garden after the baby arrives!

:: I've been enjoying little organizing projects - no big nesting projects for me this pregnancy. It's been a very physically challenging pregnancy.

Hope you all have a wonderful Easter week!

Oh goodness.. where to start.. Lacrosse season.. got 5 kids playing. Scouts are still going on. My sister and her family are moving to CA. My mom will be moving in with us for half the year.. us for the summer my sis for the winter. In the meantime my sis and her youngest are going to CA to stay with friends and start looking for their own place while my BIL and older nephew will be staying with us so he can finish out baseball season here. And of course my mom is staying here. And we have no room really.. but we'll make do and it'll work and we all laugh at the ridiculousness of it. And while all that is in the works, we're trying to get the house ready for an appraisal so that we can hopefully add on and make the house a bit less crowded feeling.. things like a second bathroom, 4 bedrooms and a family room area. (we have 3 bedrooms, 1 bath room and no second living area).

And then of course we threw Easter into that mix and helping out an older couple with yard work.. and I feel like we're working and getting no where.

Jen
So nice to hear your update

Well we've had a very eventful week, never been precedented before.

Mixed in with the 4 Easter services, our two college children came home and we celebrated 2 birthdays, all this in the space of 6 days.

Then... Monday night we attended an 18th/16th party and a see-saw came up and clobbered ds4 under the chin- hence a visit to the hospital, glue to hold it together, and 3.5hrs later we emerge.

Tuesday we hold ds16th party (and VERY belated party for ds13 & dd8) I take 21 children and young adults down to C__ (1hr away) on my own, at the last minute 2 mums and 3 more kids join us.

Imagine me on the ice, yes my roller skating days were returning to me nicely. Some of the kids had walking frames to help, ds19 had been nicely helping ds6 and I took over and did a lousy job. 1 minute later he wanted to push on his own, I let go, his feet went out from under him, landed on the back of his head and frame on top of his face!!!!! Blood is POURING out!!! We left a puddle on the ice, got him off, we rang for an ambulance, and then he began losing consciousness, concussion I think.

Anyhow we head off in the ambo, me throwing my van keys at my 19yr old (who can't legally drive it) telling her and ds17 and their friend J(16) they are in charge of all the kids, make sure they have a good time. The two mums are there too so thank goodness, all I could think later was I took a diabetic kid and fortunately his mum came last minute! Imagine if we didn't have enough food for him in the delayed wait. So I ran off leaving ds19 with 20 kids including a 2 and 4 yr old on the ice, praying no more accidents.

Dh drove down, picked up the van and the mob, left me the small car and took all the kids home and made sure they continued the party. I have heard that some of the kids were rather traumatised and didn't really skate much after the accident, the blood on the ice and all over the other areas was off putting to say the least.

Well his lip was totally split open, above the lip line and right around and under, nasty, nasty, nasty. 3 hours later a dr finally looked at it, 7 hrs later they finally stitch, they were close to sending him to theatre, they gave him general anesthetic thank goodness, so 9 hrs later we head home, arriving at 12.30am.

He was so good, so patient, so very, very brave. His mouth is all stitched up, Wednesday he drank/ate from a syringe. Thursday he progressed to a straw and Thursday night he began eating soft food via fingers.

Praying here, too, Erin!

We had a hectic Holy Week - two choir practices a week for the last six weeks, then sang every Mass from Spy Wednesday through Easter Sunday. The Vigil was especially wonderful -- lots of people coming into the Church, my husband sang the Exultet, and we did lots of fun music, including this. We didn't sound quite like this choir -- only six of us in our choir -- but it was a joyful thing anyway.

We had our annual family Seder dinner on Holy Thursday, which has come to be a much-beloved tradition. That dinner almost trumps Easter dinner in splendor, because I'm that much less tired on Holy Thursday than I am on Easter! We do a "paschal chicken" on Holy Thursday, saving the lamb for Easter, with rice pilaf, spinach salad, homemade matzoh, and haroseth. Then it was off to that Mass.

Both Holy Thursday and Good Friday services in our parish are bilingual, and we always do at least one piece with the Spanish choir. Thursdays was "Dona Nobis Pacem," which we've done together for years, but this year for some reason it was really incredible -- their choir is big and they sing with great gusto. On Friday we did a back-and-forth version of the Stabat Mater, with our choir singing the traditional Latin, and the Spanish choir doing alternate verses in Spanish.

Kids and husband stayed for the Living Stations of the Cross that the Spanish-speaking community puts on every Good Friday, but I went home to drink Throat-Coat tea!

Holy Saturday: last-minute clothes, shoe, and grocery shopping, and then waiting. It always seems like the longest day of the year. And then it was Easter!

We took off school for the Triduum and have been off this week, too. On Monday an old friend of my husband's came for lunch and stayed all afternoon, and we've had kids spending the night out and spending the night here, since all their in-school friends are on break, too. Now it's cold and rainy and gross, but we're going to Belmont Abbey this evening for First Friday Mass and pot-luck dinner, so that's something to look forward to. While the weather was pretty I did a good bit of gardening, transplanting things like black-eyed Susans and just generally getting beds ready to plant. The house is still clean from deep-cleaning last week, which is something else to enjoy but not take so much for granted that I don't clean again for months!

A joyful Eastertide to all! Praying for you and that baby, too, Jen!

Sally

Wow, Erin! What a week! I hope everyone (including you) is recovering well.

Jen, I have been doing some Spring projects, and it seems quite Providential that I did the bulk of my cleaning during Holy week. In the past few weeks I've all of a sudden become really pregnant, and turning 24 weeks tomorrow, I've suddenly become aware of not being able to "bend in the middle" much, as you say. I'm still just small enough to kneel and make it back up again, but oddly, I'm truly not sure I could have done all the cleaning I did last week this week or next! SO excited you are going to be holding your little one so soon

And Angie, I'm sure there is not time for much else other than baseball and weddings, though if you wanted to gush any at all about the wedding stuff, I'm sure you'd have willing eyes and ears here

I know this wasn't meant to be funny, but thank you for sharing this, Erin. I am laughing just at this whole scene. We've had a good number of trips to the ER for glue or stitches, usually on the face or head area, and there is always so much blood....ewwww.

We still have Rose, but things are complicated and stressful. I will post a prayer request later.

We did have a beautiful Easter and various combinations of family members were able to participate in all of the Masses.

Lissa and I will finish up Journey North with one more meeting and a grand party next week. My three oldest will participate in a Shakespeare Festival in Balboa Park in a few weeks. Piano and dance recitals, First Communion for a nephew, group camping....lots of spring activities. Oldest daughter was invited to a friend's prom at his small Catholic high school. Open heart surgery for Rose in a week or so.....busy, busy!

Happy Easter!
