I'm heart broken to share this.
A dear friend, a retired soldier, father of 4 girls(10-16), champion of the less fortunate, called last night. He was asking dh for a job reference. This is fine. However, he shared he has just been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He had testing yesterday to see how much it had spread, and we're waiting on results.
I'm of to the chapel here in a bit, doors open at 8. His family needs him. Please pray that he finds a job he'll be able to maintain through this time, and that the Drs. found the cancer early enough to treat successfully.
His girls need him! His wife needs him. His friends need him. It's just too soon.

Update April 1
Thank you all for your prayers. He had 2 interviews last week, and was offered both, praise the Lord.
We are still waiting to hear about test results, your continued prayers for his health and employment stability are greatly appreciated.

Update May 5th
Results of bone scan were that the cancer was localized and not spread into the bone. Still treatable, but stage 2-3.
He did get the job he'd really wanted, his dream job.

Update May 31st
Finally gets into the cancer clinic. I don't know the results, the appointment ws for treatment options, but do know that it wasn't what they hoped it would be. Meaning not sure. I know they hoped that radiation would be sufficient. The alternative is radical surgery. I'm hoping he shares, as sharing helps relieve some of the stress.
Please keep Mario and his family in your prayers, they are going to need it.

The cancer clinic didn't give him much option for treatment. If they did readical surgery, removal of prostate, they said 7 years. No treatment 2 years, and radiation might work for the prostate cancer but he'd be likely to battle another csncer within 5 to 10 years.
unsatisfied, they researched and found an less invasive treatment with a 95% success rate, no reduction of quality of life, as the others would do. BUT it's across the ocean.
He has been out of work for months until a few weeks ago, where he landed his dream job, he needs to come up the cost of the trip, and the treatment. His 17yo daughter took it upon herself to come up with 10K to get them there. It costs more than that but that is the shortfall, from what I gather. She created a website and started emailing everyone she could think of. He didn't want charity, but his daughter explained that she can't do anything to ease the cancer, let her and her sisters raise what they need to get him there. He consented, with the knowledge that if he doesn't beat it, at least the girls knew that they helped him in a huge way. They supported him and explored every possibility. They'd have the knowledge they did what they could.
She is 50% there in 9 days. For a 17yo, this is a HUGE accomplishment, a miracle considerring how complacent can be. It's gift to watch people reaching out to this family..
He has 4 girls, this was his eldest. He is only 48 years old. A prognosis of 7 years at that age just isn't good. He'd never see his youngest graduate, likely never meet any of his grand kids, walk his daughters down the isle.
Please, join us in prayer for him!! We need as many pleas as we can so Mario can beat this ugly disease!
