Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is there any way we can get the book list for Catholic Mosaic? I've already pre-ordered, but I'd like to be on the look out for the books!
Thanks!

Martha,
PM your email to me. I'll be happy to send you the list.

Hi Erin!!
You'll have to get Anna working on getting this one! No, not all the books are in print. But those that are not are pretty much easily gathered from the library or used book places. (For example Tomie dePaola titles)

Erin,
I love a good book hunt.

There's nothing like it! Going into quaint bookshops, bypassing all the expensive antique shelves and lurking in the delicious recesses of bookshelves searching for lost treasures.

Remember, there are 52 featured books PLUS many more books on the list. The books you do easily locate should keep you and your dc quite busy for years to come.

And, should you come across a book found on a dusty library shelf of discarded books, you will be able to shout, "Eureka!", take it home, and add yet another piece of mosaic tile to your bookshelf and your liturgical year.

So...that's why there are some OOP books listed. They met the criteria of being good, true, beautiful, and venerable. I see the booklist ever growing, ever expanding through the years.

This will definitely get you and your child started.

But OOP books are a small part of the mosaic. There are lots of new books featured that can be located quite easily.

Cay -- wouldn't you say ALL the 52 books (the ones you give activities and questions for) are all in print? Most many of us probably already have on our shelves -- Weight of a Mass, Tomie dePaola books, etc.....

Yes, they're all easy to find in your library or religious bookstore. I was at Crossroads the other day and saw several of them in the children's section.

I don't want readers to get discouraged over the OOP books. They're out there. Really. And it's a joy when you find one.

I scanned the list and, of the 52, I would say there are three that you might want to start keeping an eye out for:

Hosanna to You, Jesus by Marisa Mignolli (published by Pauline Books)

Karol from Poland by M. Leonora Wilson (another Pauline Books, I believe)

Juanita and Our Lady of the Angels by Elizabeth Loch (is OOP but I found a copy of it two years ago at a hs conference ~ so scour those conference tables and book racks)

An intereting side note about this one. We met Elizabeth in Austria -- she and my dh were in classes together at the ITI and she had kids my kids ages. She now works at Ave Maria in Nicaragua, teaching theology. Her eldest (who went to FUS) also works at AMU-Nicaragua with her husband and just had her first baby. Elizabeth may be able to tell you where to get copies of her book (which she wrote when she and her family lived in Costa Rica). Here's Elizabeth's email address at AMU if you want to try and contact her.

Mary and Donna Marie, Thank you for the resources. The Mosaic book also has a list of resources and vendors where one can obtain the books.

The book is meant to give parents a booklist into getting a good Catholic library going for their children but I also realize that sometimes the books can't be bought. So I encourage finding them at your library, approaching your pastor about starting a church library and ordering some of the books, etc. Suggestions are given in Catholic Mosaic.

I'd also like to mention that Catholic Mosaic supplies an *Annotated Book List* that gives the parents/educators *little windows* inside each book to help them select and preview the 52 books featured in the guide.

I think parents will find this *annotated booklist* a tremendous help.
