Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have tried and tried to do lapbooks--but I am not good at them, and both the kids & I find them frustrating.

Right after Christmas, I decided to try Evan-Moor History Pockets, wondering if it would be a good fit. I got the Civil War book for grades 4-6. And we love it! I can handle it, it isn't too difficult or time-consuming, but it is slightly more hands-on than just reading a history book.

It ends up being basically our spine, and I check out books from the library on the various topics (so far, we've done a civil war overview folder, a slavery folder, a leaders of the war folder, and we're working on a major battles folder). You need only the most basic supplies--construction paper, scissors, glue, a three-hole punch, and something (we use yarn) to bind it.

Anyway, I thought I'd spread the word on this great find.

I have seen these but not used them. They look good and do seem like an alternative if you don't want to do lap-books but do want something more hands-on. Thanks.

Oh, also added a link to your message above so people could see them.

Oh, thank you for that recommendation. We are terrible at lapbooks.      I'll have to keep these in mind for next year when we do Ancients.

Gracie is working on the Ancient Egypt history pocket right now. She loves it and so do I. (Although I have to admit my 6 and 7 year olds still enjoy the occasional lapbook )
